Not sure if my insurance will approve surgery

Recommended Posts

I have United Health Care for my insurance and I've completed my six month visit with my PCP now I'm working on gathering my five year history. My concern is back in 2005 my nutrionist had me on the PSMF diet program ( Post Modified Fast) I lost a nice amount of weight down to 209 then September 2006 I had a complete histeractomy then started putting weight back on now my BMI is 42. So I'm worried that UHC will say no to my surgery because my BMI was 36 in 2005 and part of 2006. Please let me know if any of you had this same thing happened and if you were approved.

PS My surgeon cancelled my surgery date when he found this out,I think I'm going to get bad news :crying:

Thanks

I'm Pretty sure the insurance wants to see you had weight issues in 2005, it doesen't matter what your BMI was then, what matters is now, plus you had a hysterectomy and the weight can come afterward. I have UHC too and they are a good insurance, mine was 80/20 and I only had to pay 1500.00 when all was said and done. Good Luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
