need ideas for mushies...

Recommended Posts

So I love scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, and mashed potatoes, but can anyone help me out with some creative ideas for things I can eat on the mushy stage? Are any meats cleared for this stage? I just need some ideas so I don't get bored.... Thanks! :001_tt2:

Here's a recipe all my family like and as you will only be having a small amount it's not too unhealthy.

Fry some sliced corned beef in a drop of olive oil and line base of a dish with it.

Add cheese sauce on top - you can make it with low fat cheese

Top with mashed potatoes and bake in the oven.

It's nice and mushy and what I call real comfort food and because you're only having such a small portion at this point the carbs and fat won't do much damage, plus there's your Protein in it.

I'm trying to remember what I had during the mushy stage and I think Shepherd's Pies were on the menu and blended up stews with plenty of vegetables. Just take it easy though and don't go pushing it by trying unblended meat or fries or anything else you may find tempting as they really will give you gip. If you get a dumping type sensation afterwards with palpitations and sweating etc. it will be because you have either rushed it or eaten something you're not really ready for.

Most of the foods I ate on the mushy stage revolved around mashed potatoes, eggs and low fat cheese, like you said, and thick homemade blended up Soups.

Hope that helps a bit!

Anything that can be blended was allowed on my mushy/puree/soft solid stage.

I stuck with refried Beans with greek yogurt, cheeses, greek yogurt, chili, deli meat with cream cheese rolled up, mashed potatoes, soft cooked veggies, applesauce was allowed on my list, and chicken, tuna and egg salads were all my staples.

During my 'soft' food diet, week 3 - 6...I guess that is what others refer to as their mushy diet. I was allowed shaved deli meat, thin sliced, tuna in Water with a little lite mayo...canned chicken. Crispy, thin, diet toast. I never could figure out how this was 'soft' but it went down well and I loved a little 2% cheddar on it after I toasted it, I pop it under the broiler for a sec. Ground beef and ground turkey....which means I could have the inside of an enchilada!! :biggrin0: So, this is just what MY 'bariatric Bible' says, in addition to mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, oatmeal etc. Hope this helps a little! Refried Beans with some cheese was one of my favorties! :svengo:

I am totally craving refried Beans and for some weird reason, KFC mashed potatoes and gravy lol and I don't even really ever eat at KFC. I can't wait till I get to the mushy/soft stage.

Ricotta cheese with marinara sauce in the oven...a fake lasagna...tastes like it and smells like it, but no noodles....

I'll be on mushys next week so I'm getting prepared....can't wait!

OK - I admit I ate this during my mushy phase, but I'm not condoning it for others :001_rolleyes:---- Deviled Ham. I know it has tons of sodium, but boy did it taste good to have just a bite or two in between the lovely Protein shakes and Soups. You are actually eating meat! Looks like baby food, but that's the point, huh?

I also LOVED refried BLACK Beans with white queso on top. The black Beans have more Fiber and Protein normally than the brown ones.

durring this stage i lived on two things:

1)dannon light and fit yogurt and

2)Soup...like butternut squash Soup in those containers from the grocery by the broths...theyre a bunch of them.

that was literally all i ate for days...also at some point i started living on Smootie King's Gladiator...that was a great addition.

These are all interesting suggestions but ... I just started mushy softs and frankly, the idea of eating "food" is terrifing for me right now, I don't know why. I guess I just feel "safe" with the Soups and Protein Shakes and powders. Maybe eating real food reminds me of when I used to eat food in my former life and maybe it's a subconcious fear of returning to bad habits ... besides, I'm having awful acid/spasm pains these days, they come on the same time every afternoon regardless of it I've eaten or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
