I felt really dizzy when I was on the liquid diet for a week per the surgeon's request. (I have not had surgery yet waiting on approval) It went away after a few days though. I would mention this to your doctor if it happens everytime you stand... or is persisting 4 months out. It never hurts to double check.. you may be short on a Vitamin or something that he can recommend. :)

I've started to get this the past couple of days.... so will be interested to see what response you get. I put it down to the fact I need to drink more fluids..... but not sure really.....

I get it a LOT. Not every single time, but probably at least 50% of the time, and some days it's worse than others. I'm trying to find a pattern and I do think it might have something to do with not getting enough Water in.

I thought it was because since I have lost all my weight, my blood pressure is quite low.

I also think that it is my blood pressure. My cardiologist has taken me off one bp med entirely, cut the other 2 in half. He thinks I'll soon be off all of them. One night my bp was only 90 over 63. He wants me to keep an eye on it.

But I haven't taken it when a dizzy episode hits cause it's usually when I'm outside....maybe the heat and not enough Water along with bp.

Ditto I get dizzy especially if I'm out in the heat too long. I live in hades hot tub New Orleans but I agree that bp has a lot to do with our problem if it happens when you go from sitting to standing it is called orthostatic hypotension which is fancy for rapid decrease in blood pressure if so just try to move slower and not just pop up like a jack in the box but ALWAYS check with your MD.

My blood pressure was too low before surgery. I get dizzy a lot.... just a little rush when I first stand up.

WOW! I have the same issues with getting dizzy. I have been off of bp meds since surgery, but I've had it checked and it is fine....hmmmm....interesting! I'd be interested in knowing what doctors are saying!

I was diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension in late February/early March.

It's our bodies trying to adjust to the weight loss. The receptors for blood pressure are in the neck, and apparently they don't catch up with our bodies during the rapid weight loss phase.

My PCP and surgeon both agreed after extensive blood work that there was nothing wrong with me chemically, and to increase my Fluid intake, get up and down slowly, and to increase my activity level.

I'll also add that I had cut my sodium intake to below 1000mg daily. Apparently, that is a BIG NO NO, and that our bodies need a minimum of 1400-2500mg to function properly. I stopped monitoring my sodium intake as closely, but do not over do it because I hate Water weight. I use the natural sea salt grinders from a whole food market for any cooking.

Within a few weeks of making these modification, it was resolved. I still have episodes, but they are few and far between.

The way they diagnose orthostatic hypotension is they have you lay down flat, take your blood pressure, stay still for 10 minutes or so, and sit up rapidly, take your bp, sit still for 10 minutes, then stand up quickly, take your bp, if the numbers are lower by more than 10 points on the systolic and/or diastolic readings during all the readings then it's orthostatic hypotension. My numbers dropped significantly with a drop of about 20-22points from the laying down to standing reading.

My bp has always been normal. Never high, never low, and it's been fine since mid-March. My episodes were occurring 3-10 times per day, and were causing me to almost black out.

Be extremely careful getting in and out of a vehicle, or bending over for things on the bottom shelf at grocery stores. I've had 2 serious episodes that left me disoriented, and kind of "fuzzy" for several minutes and I found myself sitting in the middle of an aisle at Wal-Mart.

WOW !!! Thanks for the info....increasing Water and exercise could help...then that's what I'll do. I get dizzy in public places too. Sunday was at church, bent down to get my purse off the floor and thought I was gonna embarrass myself AND my daughter by passing out.

I had been in a hurry to leave the house that morning, and had not had any Water at all. I was also having leg cramps all day...got on the treadmill to see if that would help, but just made it worse.

Being low in potassium and sodium can cause leg cramping. I ended up drinking regular gatorade or Powerade once a week or so for the extra electrolytes.

I did drink the splenda-sweetened Gatorade G2 as well. I was trying to get my weight loss to slow way down so the regular gatorade didn't hurt.

Thanks again...I'm having my blood work before my next appointment in August. My cardiologist said last week that he wants to know my potassium levels. Funny that you should mention that....Thanks Tiffykins

WOW! thanks everyone...I was sure that everyone would tell me I was crazy. But, what you are describing is exactly my issue. If I'm laying down and stand up quickly my face feels flushed and I feel woozy...it goes away in like 5 seconds or less. I have an appointment with a cardiologist soon, so i'll mention this to him. I've had doctor friends tell me to increase my Fluid intake--im sure i dont have to tell anyone here how difficult that is. Increasing sodium would be the sweetest news EVER! (i like salt....actually the more i think about it...there is no WAY that LOW sodium is the issue...sad).

Yall keep me up to date on what you find out for the dizzies and I'll let you know what my doc says. I told my surgeon about it, but he looked at me like I was crazy and told me to see a doctor--nice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
