Hi !!

I've been on the site for awhile now just reading and gathering some great information, I must say that everyone here is GREAT !! The support is wonderful and I love how everyone is always willing to help.

I've been researching this surgery for about a year and 6 months ago decided to begin my insurance journey, mine required me to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet...and so everything was done and submitted and I was approved and scheduled for surgery next Monday, July 26th !! I am currectly doing my pre-op diet, this is my 2nd week of Protein shakes and Water...which has been really tough :crying: but this week it seems to be a little easier.

Now that I am so close, I am soooo scared. I have a 2yr old little girl and a wonderful and supportive husband and I am so scared to basically never see them again...which I know is normal to feel for any surgery bc they all have risks...but I'm a worrier and an analyzer by nature...2 things that do not come so handy right now...LoL !

But I have been battleling my weight for the last 5 to 6 yrs..lots of up and downs and it just got to a point where I said "no more", but the funny thing is that when WLS first came about..I always thought "I can't ever do that, it's just too scary and drastic"...Well you just never know when it's going to become a real option for you...and it did, so here I am. I want to live and be healthy for my child and for the amazing family that I have.

Anyhow, I will be around asking some questions and listening to the great advice from all of you !!

PS. Is anyone here from Miami?? just wondering....:D

i am new, only came on board last month, surgery should never be taken lightly. it is normal to be scared before any surgery, if you weren't there would be something wrong with you, but it comes down to 2 choices, having the surgery or staying the way you are, which is the lesser of the 2 evils? you will have your answer. i too have little kids so i understand, hoping you find some peace and acceptance before surgery.

Hi Aplus,

I thought the same thing oh I would never do that, or surgery is for the people that

are so big they can't walk. After seeing two co-workers who had a bypass, lose so much weight and theysay its the best thing they have ever done. I really started to look into it I think the VSG is the choice for me. Last week my Dr agreed and sent in the referral. I am so tired of being tired, and taking 6 meds sometimes more a day with the side effects. So now I am stressing hoping I get approved. I have Kasier and not sure how they are about approving.

When are you having the surgery?

Jackie

Hi Aplus,

I guess I can say I was never really scared until recently for the surgery, and when my doctor told me if I did not lose weight I probably would not be around to see my daughter marry and have kids, because of the health problems I have which are related to my weight, that day I knew what I had to do. Of course I get a little more scared each day I get closer to my date. Today I even prepared a Will, and some other legal documents in case something is to happen, just to be prepared. I know when I go into that operating room the Lord will be with me, and if it is my time I will be ready. I'm ready to start living again, because for the past 15 years all I have done is exist.

Jackie- I'm having surgery next Monday, July 26th...and it's a comfort to know that I wasn't the only one thinking that way :)

This site really is great, the support is amazing ! I had the same thought!! I told my husband that I wanted to write some letters and just keep them put away in the event something happened, I want my little girl to know how much I love and adore her..and for a minute I felt silly because I do have a lot of faith in God, and I know he is going to be with me thru out this whole journey...I'm definetly ready to start living better too !!!

I want to go to Disney World with my little one and not have swollen ankles and could barely walk the next day !! that's going to be a BIG day for me !! :)

You guys are great !!:)

When you start getting scared you just keep thinking about Disney World. I mean for anyone to want to go face that crowd at Disney World shows how much it means to you. Good luck with your surgery, and keep us posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
