A touch of the "blues"?

Recommended Posts

I will be sleeved one month from today! I'm very excited and have had such a positive attitude...until this past week. I've felt really blue and I'm trying to understand why. Is it because I know my lifestyle will change soon? Is it because I'm feeling like I'm losing a comforting best friend (food)? This surgery represents very positive changes for my health and quality of life so why the blues? Has anyone else experienced this before surgery?

It very well could be. And on this side of the sleeve, it feels like it will forever alter everything! I am still pre-op and know what you are feeling. I take a lot of comfort in reading everyone's post-op posts on how somethings have changed, but largely, life is only getting better. That is what I hold onto and look forward to. Hang in there, you got this!

I didn't really feel down at loosing a friend - food, but more that my life revolved around it... I'd eat sleep and breathe food, so couldn't work out how I would cope with that, but I did.

I know a lot of people get the blues post op... whic his why its important you have sufficient post op support. If you do comfort eat then the only thing you turn to for comfort has almost totally gone... (cos you can eat so little post op). So you need to hang onto the fact this is happening to improve your life and health.

Arrange things to do pre op to help keep your mind off things too much...

I also felt a bit weird, possibly blue over the fact I failed myself by not being able to do this on my own, having to resort to such a drastic action as surgery to solve my weight problems.

Good luck

Kathy

I had the blues "big time". Knowing that I would be forever changing my relationship with food, made me feel like I was "breaking up"! I know that sounds extreme but it's how I felt. For the few weeks until I had to go on my liquid diet, I feasted on all my faves. My kids love sushi, so hubby and I had dinner with them. My mom loves homestyle cooking, so I took her out to have my last meal of that sort. I said bye to it all.

After surgery, the only time I felt like I really was deprived or anything was when I was on liquids. But, I think that's normal. Now, I don't worry about it or feel sad at all. I have come to realize that in time, I will be able to eat pretty much what I want as long as I remember to keep my meals balanced (75% protein).

I am happy that I have made this change. It's the best gift I have ever given myself.

Best of luck to you.

I was sad over this as well. I felt like a failure b/c I was not able to loss weight on my own. I was also questioning whether I was doing the right thing. To think about 80% of your stomach being removed is drastic. However, now I'm almost 5 weeks out and I couldn't be happier with my decision and choice! Hang in there!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
