Sunshine 1 Posted July 17, 2010 On the day of your surgery....are you allowed to drink anything at all? I keep hearing 'complaints' of being extremely thirsty and not having anything to drink. (just wondering............)
sickofitall 0 Posted July 17, 2010 After my surgery (on Wednesday) I was NPO so I was not allowed ANYTHING by mouth. It was HORRIBLE but I did fight with the nurse aids and get cups of Water out of the bathroom and just swish my mouth out. I did not swallow. I kept one cup to drink and one to spit out in. It was gross but believe me I would do it all over again. Some of the nurses thought I was drinking but I just showed them that I was spitting it out. With the A/C on, plus the oxygen in your nose, AND the anesthesia you dry out real quick. I don't know how others could do that with nothing...not even spitting. Hope this helps. ~Lori
Donna4545 13 Posted July 17, 2010 Just keep pumping the morphine drip and asking for ice chips and or the mouth swab--you'll be fine :-)
Sunshine 1 Posted July 17, 2010 Ice chips it will be. I understand the reasoning behind...but I just wish I didn't have to have a dry mouth.
