Newbie Medication Question

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My surgery is scheduled for Aug 3rd. I have several medications that I will continue to take after my surgery, which the bariatrician has said can be crushed. What is the best way to take these in the liquid phase?...put in a small amount of liquid and swallow? Put in mouth dry and sip some liquid? How do you get them down and get rid of the nasty taste? Seems more obvious in the pureed/mushy phase when it can be put in applesauce or something similar to carry it down. Anyone have suggestions to make this easier??? :biggrin0:

Right after my surgery, a nurse brought my crushed meds in a tiny cup with Water added to it. This was a disaster as I had to drink that and taste it all. I asked her to bring the crushed meds to me dry after that. I take a sip to "wet my whistle" throw the "powder" back as far as I can in my mouth and wash it down with Water. Works fine.

You are correct about mushies, applesauce make it really easy to get them down.

I took my Nexium crushed to start with, and that tastes foul.... even mixed with Water or anything.... but eventually I tried it cut in half and that went down ok... t me it seemed huge to start with that I didn't want to try it and get it stuck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
