OK I was just going over my notes from my options classes and Biotin isn't even on the list of Vitamins to take after surgery for hair. I was amazed to find out that they actually recommend B1 as the Vitamin to take to prevent Hair loss (along with the protein)...Does anyone take B1 on a regular basis???

OK my peeps! I was looking over my notes and found that I had written down Biotin 5000 mcg...I just emailed one of the instructors at Kaiser to see what that means. I asked her if I need to start taking it now or wait until after the surgery? That seems like a lot of Biotin. They were a great price at Target, 100 tablets for $1.94 :-)

I've been taking it for 3 years ever since band surgery. I take it, but I don't know why, cause I don't think it helps. Mine are 5,000 mcgs too.

Has any one tried Ovation products for hair growth? I have been hearing radio ads for it, and this thread made me think that maybe I should start using this type of product before it happens to me. They say it help people going thru chemo, etc...

What do you guys think?

I did a quick google search for the product line ingredients. I found lots of reviews, and here's a couple that I found interesting.

Personally, I'm not willing to chunk a huge amount of money into these type of products. And, believe me, I'm super vain about my hair. I hate that I lost it, but it's growing back.

By the ingredient list, it looks like what you find in most every day shampoos with the exception of the Sodium Laureth Sulfate which will strip your hair of all the oils, build up, and essentially dry the crap out of your hair which leads to more breakage of your existing hair.

The reviews I scanned over say that the cell therapy is a good product. But, you can also find the amino acids and Protein packed therapies at beauty stores for about 1/3 of the cost without shipping costs.

Just my 2cents

Thanks Tiffykins,

I'm going to scour the items over at SallyBeauty, that contain the ingredients in the cell therapy. I hope to find something the same.

If ANYONE finds ANYTHING that really works, please let us know. I took Biotin for 2 months and didn't see any difference, so I stopped taking it. My hair loss started 3-4 months post-op and hasn't let up yet.

I've started trying to go longer between shampoos and don't brush it as much - which is the only thing I can think of to try and help. But that doesn't actually "cure" anything. Luckily I had tons of hair to begin with so no one seeing me would know it's thinner, but I can tell, and I can see it in my trash can when I clean off my brush. Yuck!

I am baffled with this delema. I have tried professional products but no luck yet. My doctor said to count on 3 months of Hair loss. I don't have enough to loose. I glue my hair with hairspray so I don't loose any while in the wind or shake my head around people. I have been loosing handfuls for 4 months now!! I think this will go on for a year and it really bothers me. I am a slow looser and average 3-4 lbs a month so the theory of hair loss equals weight loss dosn't really apply here. Also, I need to figure out how to loose faster. :) Any ideas?

The only thing I used on a regular basis is that Folicure extra care Shampoo. I only used it every other day because it strips your hair, and cleans out the hair follicles to let the new growth through. On the other days, I used Nexxua Dualiste Anti-breakage shampoo and conditioner which is super rich, and a very heavy moisturizing conditioner.

That's the stuff my stylist told me to get, you can find the Dualiste shampoo conditioner at Wal-Mart. I had new growth coming in before my shedding even started.

I also use this product. Yes, I know it is intended for horse, yes I realize that I am a human, but I swear by this stuff LOL.

Aphogee - ApHogee Intensive Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor

I used that during that "holy crap, my hair looks horrible stage".

Hey Sleevers,

I am using an oral product I got from Supper Suppliments for hair loss control. It is called 'Hair Revive' Natural Defense. I was told women have raved about its abilities. I am going to give it 30 days and see what it does. It seems to have all B-complex Vitamins and a high dosage of Biotin. :) I will report back on the results.

Is this a Vitamin? I have never heard of Super supplements so I wouldn't know where to get it.

Supper Suppliments is like GNC. I am in Pacific NW so they are local here. Time will tell if it works.

Will let you know its results mid September (30 days out). :001_rolleyes:

I am just curious to see what the hair loss was like for everyone!

Well in the past 5 months i've lost so much hair that i'm sure i could have made about 6 wigs. . . A LOT!!!!!!!! it's slowing down now, but still drops out in gobs. . . nothing really helps, have tried Biotin, different shampoos, increase Proteins, etc. . . so i'll just let it take it's course and hope for the best. . . .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
