How do you use isopure?

Recommended Posts

Pete, I think you probably got a different kind of Isopure than what was intended. The kind usually taken before surgery and after while on Clear Liquids, it looks more like a koolaid or gatorade. It comes in bottles and you don't "make" anything :001_tt2: That brand also makes powders so that's probably what you got. Here is a link to what you should probably try to find:

I was looking at using Isopure but Long term, is this the best way to get Protein. I mean is protein from eating 3 oz of chicken the same as drinking from Isopure? I ask because my nutritionist always talks about 'when you can get your protein from full meals' (I am on mushy stage right now) so I wonder if there is 'better' protein or if it is the same.

The best Protein is from food sources, I am almost four months out and I still supplement my food sources with a Protein Shake in the mornings. I have a minimum target of 60g of protein daily, but I really like to be around 90. Your NUT will be able to clear up what they think is best for you. I found mushy stage to be the most difficult. You can do cottage cheese (which is an excellent source), greek yogurt (depending on the brand 23g of protein per cup) though you may want to add some sugar free toriani Syrup to it. Lots of people also enjoy cream Soups at this stage in the game. Your options are more limited here, but stick to it and give yourself time to heal. Good luck!

I still can't eat enough to get anywhere near 60 grams of protein per day. I'd never get close if it wasn't for the Isopure (or Isopuke as some call them). I try to drink a whole one each day but I can't always do it if my stomach is feeling "off". I'm still thanking my stars every day that I actually like the flavor.

I have been buying the individual bottles at Vitamin Shoppe because their bulk packs are all one flavor and I refuse to drink the same kind everyday. I would love to get the variety pack. Has anyone seen them at a GNC store? The link Christy posted seems like a web only offer.

I agree about the Isopure. The smell is what gets me and the filmy stuff floating in it after you've sipped on it awhile  *shivers*

I have found that if I drink it really cold & through a straw so that I don't smell it then it's not too bad. :cursing:

I would add two of those "bullets" when I made Crystal Lite and drink on that all day, UNTIL I advanced to Protein Shakes. I didn't care much for it, but it was diluted so much in the Crystal Lite. Now that I am so far from surgery in Jan 2009, most of my Protein comes from food actually, so I don't need to supplment protein as I did before. Although every once in a while, I do still drink protein shakes.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
