Recommended Posts

I've been doing well since my surgery 9 days ago...I almost didnt feel banded ( wait this gets better)...Ive had mushie potatoes and cottage cheese...what a breeze!! So today I thought ..Gee..Im hungry...SO I grabbed a string cheese from the fridge....60 seconds later I was bent over the sink in PAIN..PAIN I tell ya!!! Stuck. I started spitting slime like nobodys business....and then...BURP...BURP...no more pain....

Ya know...Ive read about flamming golf balls and PBs....Now I know why they are so hated. UGH!:speechles Bring on the Soup anyday.

damn... this eating business is scary isnt it?? i am 11 days out. i was hungry at dinner time, but im getting a little sick of Soup and Protein Shakes. I tried egg salad for the first time. Made 2 eggs with low fat mayo and ate about 1-1/2. I ate tiny tiny spoonfuls cuz I was nervous. Thankfully it went down fine. I probably could have eaten the whole thing, but I was afraid.... I guess this is going to take some practice!!

Hey Ladies! I can definitley relate.. I was eating mashed potatos and apple sauce last night.. I either ate too fast or too much.. a whole lot of burping and pressure in my chest. Scared the heck out of me! I will eat slower now.. Is the light pressure between my breasts the indicator saying that I'm full? Hmmm... Also.. 11 days out and I'm burping alot.. are you guys? Does burping indicate eating or drinking too fast?

I wasn't allowed mashed taters until I was 4 weeks out.... boy oh boy I'm jealous lolol !!!

My first BP was on a late night piece of chocolate that I didn't chew...yeah you'd think it would have melted.. NOT!

Lesson learned.

Kim- I burp a lot too. I would assume it's pretty normal. I have a big hiccup or burp and then pressure when my band is full. I would assume that any type of pain/pressure would be an indicator of fullness. If your not sure, stop for a few minutes. If you're still hungry, you can eat after you are sure you aren't full.

I've been on full liquids immediately after surgery on May 26th. I did however, have Clear Liquids the first few days. I even got sick (no golf ball or slime) the day after which was probably from the anesthesia.

I love cottage cheese and apple sauce together...yummy. :hungry: Last night I really wanted cheese so I carefully ate 4 slices of the new Sargento super deli thin cheddar cheese. You can almost see through it and it melts in your mouth. I ate it very slowly. It felt great on my stomach and so satisfying. Before eating it, I did double check to make sure it was on my list of approved foods. :clap2:

If I feel ANYTHING in my chest, stomach, or throat, I will stop and let things settle. I find myself eating too fast sometimes. I have to really concentrate on eating slowly. My kids laugh at me for using their old baby spoons. Boy, this does take practice doesn't it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
