Upcoming surgery June 6th - anxious and scared about past failure.

Recommended Posts

This is where the anxiety starts. I had a major breakdown last night reading my lapband materials. I know this is the best thing for me. Weighing in at 281.5 lbs and 5'8" tall it is time. Did any of you have any phsycho issues about past failure and your lack of ability to exercise. I fear being in public at this weight. Kind of like walking on a course and not sure if I can make it fear. Advise appreciated.

Its normal to be scared of the surgery and scared that you will fail, but you really need to try to keep positive thoughts right now. Surgery didn't make me change over night but it is helping me change slowly and I couldn't be happier.

Hang in there, your gonna be fine.

GOOD LUCK TOMORROW !!!!!

Oh yeah. My biggest fear was to be a failure at yet another attempt to lose weight. But this was was different since I was paying a HUGE amount of money have putting myself at risk by having surgery to do it! I felt like if I failed I had let down not just myself, but especially my kids. So far...success! I was banded on 2/22 and am down 41 pounds.

Well, I have to say with similar stats and height, I am very scared and wondering if this is the right answer.

But what scares me more is NOT doing this.

Hugs and keep us up on your progress.

Me too.

I am similar size 5ft7in 275lbs (125kg) My surgery date is 17th July and I am definitely scared that this surgery will not help and I will fail again.

I think after years and years of dieting...failure, dieting...failure, dieting....failure that I am in that whole "dieting = failure" mindset and it's hard to grasp the concept that I might actually be successful this time.

I'm trying to be positive be I also have the same fears.....so it must be totally normal.

Good Luck

Happy bandday tomorrow julie. It's gonna be fine. Whatever happens, you will get through it because you MUST. You can and will do it. It won't be like you think, but it's another life altogether after banding. Your whole perspective changes with the day to day banded living. You can do this! Just wait till the first 15-20 pounds is gone and watch how motivating that is. I'm excited for you! Get you some quiet time tonight. Rest well. And don't go too far from your 'puter. You'll need us! Congrats!

Well I didnt see this post until tonight, so by now your probably banded (whoohoo) and on your way to recuperation (even though it might not feel like it right at this moment). I just wanted to say that who here in our heart of hearts havent asked themselves.... will I fail? I think we all do, because we have in the past.... but this is a new beginning. You can do this, I can do this, we All can do this! Now that my pep talk is finished you take care of yourself, walk and sip... in a couple of days you will feel better and in a couple of months you will be amazed at how you feel!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
