My first scramble egg......

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 weeks post op today and have been looking forward to my very first egg. I've been dreaming about it for over a week. Well, it tasted FABULOUS !! Unfortunately - I couldn't finish it - I managed to get in about half. That was almost 3 hours ago and I'm still not hungry. Amazing, since I've been really hungry with the Protein Shakes. It feels good not to be hungry all of the time. I'll be having cottage cheese for lunch today and some pureed Soup for dinner. Sounds delish !!

WOW! You did great with your first egg. Mine seemed to grow larger on the plate. The more I tried to eat, the larger the remains seemed.

Are you allowed to have sunny side up eggs at this point in the game? For some reason, they are easier for me than scrambled. I just cook mine in a little bit of Pam spray.

Congratulations on adding some soft foods in. You are right about not feeling full on the shakes - they just go right on through. The more solid foods you get, the better you'll find your full point. Happy Eating!

Do you have any advice? Like on how much you took in a bite? I'm getting kinda anxious on starting to eat...I don't want to overdo it!

My Sister bought me a silver baby spoon for my post op recovery present. It is the perfect size. Impossible to take big scoops with it. I put it down between bites for 30 seconds to a minute and relaxed until I felt things move along. I also bought myself a great small plate from the Thrift store that is really cool and my egg looked great on it.

The small utensils is a great trick. You can get cocktail forks and spoons at many stores - perfect size for small bites!

Sounds like your first egg went great. I couldn't tolerate eggs until several months post-op. I remember my first try at a scramled egg around 6 weeks post-op...not good! I ate about 1/4 of it & felt like I needed to puke for at least two hours. :confused1: I do fine with them now, thankfully.

My advice to anyone trying eggs for the first time post-op is to take it very slow & if it doesn't go well the first time, give your tummy a few more weeks & try again. Oh, and don't expect to eat 1 whole egg for a long while! LOL! :svengo:

I started eggs, "fried" in a non-stick pan but usually I scramble it. At first I did good to get half of it down, but all of a sudden about four days ago, I can eat the entire egg. Yay, more protein! Friday was five weeks since I had surgery, and I guess it was the day before that when I first ate the entire egg. Just all of a sudden I can eat more, I ate 2 oz of tuna salad today. Tuna, a little lite mayo and I add a little of those mini dill pickles for some flavor. Today was the first day I could eat that much tuna!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
