Protein opinions...what worked, what didn't

Recommended Posts

I have searched on here, and haven't found any information about this. Has anyone used the Protein powder from smoothie King called Gladiator? I got some samples, and really like them. It is low carb, less than 1 sugar, and has 45g whey Isolate Protein. I also bought some Body Fortress to mix with pudding, milk, etc in vanilla, and it has 52g whey isolate. Has anyone tried these? I would love to get an opinion. So far, I have tried the following, and thought....

  • powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup- Loved it at first, but then got tired of it fast! 21g protein= 1 scoop
  • Bullets- Couldn't get them down...not a single one, even the tiny ones...especially them
  • Isopure - tried grape, fruit punch, etc, and again, liked it at first in the hospital and I think I was on too much medicine cause I got tastebuds back, and couldn't stand it! 20oz=40g
  • Optifast- Chocolate: loved it..still drink it, Vanilla: good, but got old, Strawberry: Not so good, chicken soup: not terrible, Tomato: not my favorite 14g protein
  • GNC unflavored: great to mix in with stuff....1/2 scoop is 14g, and it is 100% whey Isolate. Smell isn't great, but there isn't any taste. 28g=1 scoop
  • Gladiator (Smoothie King) - Chocolate: Very sweet, but good. No super bad protein smell and high protein. Good with milk. Haven't tried other flavors yet, and they have samples for about $2.99 in the store.(at least they did here) 12oz = 45g protein
  • Body Fortress - Vanilla: bought it today..haven't tried it yet. Plan to make smoothies, and mix with pudding. Highest protein amount I've found. 52g=2 scoops

I would love to hear what everyone else has experienced.

Did you ever get a response on this? My friend who had lap band done used the Body Fortress Whey Protein powder. He said it was the only one he liked. However I saw on the Meijer website that it says in the description that it is not for weight loss - so that has me concerned about it. Is it ok to use or not?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
