Is this too much food 3 1/2 weeks out?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I keep worrying my doc left my tummy bigger than I wanted.

We negotiated a 34 fr, but he kind of hemmed and hawed when

I asked him about it after surgery.

I may be worrying for nothing and obsessing on "size"

We got lunch today and I was able to comfortably finish a Taco Bell

"pintos and cheese" which is approximately 4.5 ounces, and half of a seving of their rice. Maybe a 1/8 of a cup.

I am comfortably full but dont feel I over did it.

Isnt this a lot of food at this point?

I did this so I would get satisfied quickly on a little food, I am worried

that if there is any swelling left to go down in my stomach that i will be eating a cup of food at a sitting!

Ack!

Freaking a little here.

TIA

Lisa

I know how you feel. My doctor doesn't use a bougie he uses an intragastric baloon? i think he invented it, but he wouldn't give me a comparison as to what it equals in a bougie, i have always fealt my sleeve is bigger than most, but i will deal with it, no other choice really, so i'm losing, which is great. But i eat more than most people say they can eat. Whatever its what we got and we can work it. best of luck to you jeani

p. s. i was told no rice, especially in the beginning, its a simple carb and they are no nos

I think you will really begin to notice your restriction when you begin to eat more dense foods like chicken or beef or fish. That's how it was for me.

With Beans and mushies, you didn't eat a huge amount at all. Even at this stage in the game, you're still healing so soft stuff isn't going to give you the same restriction that dense protein/heavier foods will give you.

As time progresses, you will be able to eat larger quantities. At 13 months out, I can eat an entire 6-8oz of food in one meal. It has to be mushy foods, but I can eat that much. I've been eating that much for several months. I can still only eat 3-5oz of dense Protein such as chicken and steak. If I eat 5oz, I can't get anything else in, if I go easy on the Protein I can get a few good sized bites of veggies/carbs.

Don't fret, you'll do great. Just stick to your calorie, carb, protein goals, and you'll lose.

I've got a 40f sleeve and can only eat about 2 tablespoons of soft/mushy foods. So, unless your sleeve is WAAAYYYY bigger than the typical sizes used, I don't think this has anything to do with it. How much people can eat seems to vary widely across sleeve sizes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
