I was banded in January in Mexico and have had dismal results. My surgeon suggested that I might have a leak, or erosion, but I need to come back in to get checked out.

Well, I'm a Kaiser member and decided to see what I could make happen in that area and after forwarding my surgery report, they've agreed to see me in August.

I really want a revision to a sleeve!

But they told me they won't do a revision (of any kind) unless the band has failed: erosion, leak, etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my "approach" with the Kaiser doctor can be once I am seen? I don't want to just say that I'm not losing, even thought I am only .8 cc short of full capacity in my 11 cc band. Who knows, maybe there is something wrong with the darn thing.

Suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for you because I've never had the band and didn't have insurance that would cover the sleeve surgery.

Anyone out there have any help for Butterfly?

Butterfly, I am not quite sure i understand your question? I think you should check to see if you have a leak, (they would know that by aspirating the amount in your band, so you have ruled that out by saying you have only .8 cc short of 11 cc) or erosion (you would know you had this complication most likely with vomiting blood) a band slip would make you pretty sick (vomiting etc) in other words you will have clinical symptoms or radiological or endoscopic complications to the band that is a reason to remove and revise, without that, it is really not a medical issue and a personal need/choice. or like you stated "I really want a revision to a sleeve!" which is not medically necessary as you know so insurance would not be liable to pay for it-hope that helps and I wish you great success in whaterver you choose...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
