Okay so I'm 2 weeks out and yesterday I was given the okay to move on to mushies. But I'm SCARED to!

What foods did you start off with and might you give me some suggestions of a day's menu...I'm scared to get sick.

beans/chilli, applesauce, baby food, canned chiken, crackers, scrambled egg, hard boiled egg, etc.

Thanks :thumbup1: I mean I know what I can eat but to start off with chili, chicken, crackers!!???....ughhhhhhhhh I'm scared to even think about carbs.

Staying on full liquids just seems safer.

You can puree cans of Soup right...like a chicken noodle or chicken and rice? Minestrone pureed might taste yummy. I think someone mentioned egg flower soup (chinese rest. make good ones).

I ate a lot of chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad. I also cooked ground turkey with taco seasoning and mixed in sour cream. There is a

recipe in here for a ricotta bake that is good with some marinara sauce on top.

Do I just dive in?? And about how many ounces are "acceptable" at 2.5 weeks out. I think I'm not eating enough. I'm still at 2-3 oz at each meal (broth, yogurt, etc) because I'm afraid of puking!

How did you make your chicken salad? Just chicken and light mayo? Did you eat it with crackers?

I find my jaws hurting so bad :scared0:from chewing so much, I dared to eat 1/2 of a scrambled egg this a.m.

I'm relieved others are a bit scared of eating - I don't feel so daft!

I did manage half a small fresh salmon fillet last night (steamed), with one small steamed potato and some lemon fat free mayo - I just mashed it together with my fork, and it tasted lovely.

I really miss a fresh salad with lettuce, Tomato from the garden... when can you eat lettuce?

I was a little scared at first too... I started with oatmeal that I cooked to death.... very very mushy. Just go slow. Take a small bite and let it set. Once you get going you'll be fine. Just limit yourself to about 2 oz. I didn't measure.... but I uderstand its better to measure out 2oz to be safe. Once you get a feel for how much you can eat you can ditch the measuring. Once I got going it was heavenly to have some real sustanance. My favorite was 1/4 baked sweet potatoe, a bit of cream, and some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup mix (Protein powder) with a little salt. That was really satisfying.

I agree with Stacey. For someone who's nervous about eating, oatmeal is a great starter. Also, try some mashed potatoes with a little butter. The instant kind are great cause you can easily play with the consistency. I know the potatoes are strictly carbs, but they are a safe way to see what your stomach will tolerate. For a first meat, I would suggest tuna or some type of baked fish, if you like it. It doesn't require much chewing and goes down pretty easily.

Don't beat yourself up on carbs right now. If you eat high Protein foods, you won't have room for carbs. I did the same as Daisy, plus chili was staple in my diet.

My instructions were to only introduce one new food per day. In case you do get sick, you can isolate what caused it, and to avoid it for a couple of weeks. Things may taste funky at first. I loved, loved, loved mustard pre-op, and to this day, I'm not a fan. Something changed, and I have to use it sparingly.

Just take it slow, chew, chew, chew. Digestion begins in the mouth, just because it's mush doesn't mean we shouldn't chew it. This will help get the stomach ready to accept food.< /span>

Start with 2-3 ounces, and work your way up. I get the hiccups as a full signal. Listen to your body, it will tell you what it likes and what stuff pisses it off.

I started with mushies having far too large a portion ..... and just not being able to finish it... even tho it looked tiny it was still too big!

Now I'm on soft foods I'm still having the same issue - my restriction is so much I can hardly eat anything more than about 5 bites of 'food'.

Wow! You all are wonderful! Really you are!

So I took a deep breath and had a bit of chicken salad (light mayo & shredded chicken) with a few Wheat Thins. I ate about 3 oz and 4 crackers. It was delish!

OregonDaisy: I can't wait to try the Ricotta Bake!

I think I'm going to try some oatmeal tomorrow.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
