Protein on Vacation?

Recommended Posts

We're going to fly to Mexico in a couple of weeks. I will be about 6 weeks post-op.

Unless things change quickly, I will not be able to get my required Protein by food alone.

What's the most compact way to carry Protein to another country, realizing that there might be a lot of trouble getting it back into the USA?

Those shot things can have a lot of protein, but they sure are nasty. I'm thinking of just taking a half bag of Meal Replacement powder.

What do you think?

Are you flying? I just came back from vacation and we drove. I was able to pack a cooler with all the Premier Protein shakes ( I drink 2 a day) with me for the entire trip. I get them at costco and they are premade. No shaker cups, or blender required. I had a horrible time finding a Protein shake that wouldn't nauseate me. These are the only ones I can get down.

If you are flying....you may have to contact the airline for approval of the containers. They are 6 oz. containers.

Have fun and enjoy your vacation....they don't last long enough !!!

I used the Myoplex Carb Control RTD and I packed them in my checked luggage. I bagged them in large ziplocks and then put those inside a shoebox sized plastic container. I was traveling 3 weeks post op for business. I am 5 weeks now and on vacation and I have no problems with my Protein from food alone. eggs with cheese for Breakfast (and sometimes for other meals if nothing looks like it will work on the menu), grilled fish or chix for lunch/dinner. I know some people say no fruit, but I have been lovinig watermelon. In Mexico Beans should be readily available at any restaurant.

I bought a little container that you store infant formula in. It has 4 devided little spots that hold 1 scoop of Protein perfectly and then I can just dump one section into a Blender Bottle or a bottle of Water. The container is small enough to fit in my purse and I usually leave it in my desk at work.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
