It was suggested to us that we get them. Mine says

Sleeve Gastrectomy

No blind NG tube

no nsaids

my name

I got mine from American Medical ID - Medical ID Alert, Custom Engraved Medical Bracelets and Necklaces. Identify Yourself!

but there are lots of places to choose from

if you do buy from american medical, use code GAU for 20% off your order

hope this helps

Thanks so much for the 411. I was told in my option classes that we should plan on getting one.

I'm confused...

I thought we could do NSAIDS??? That was one of the reasons why I chose the VSG and not the GB??

The NO Nsaids was optional

they said its ok in small doses..

This is what Kaiser Richmond told me... you should check with your own Dr to be sure..

Just means they should use imaging if they have to insert an NG tube, rather than shoving it down without looking, and hoping it ends in the stomach.

I'm cleared for NSAIDS as well, and was advised that a medic alert Bracelet is not necessary. I do have it written on a piece of paper in my wallet, and on the back of my insurance card/registration that sits in my visor. In an accident, they grab those 2 things first for identification and emergency contact information. I also have a clotting disorder, and have it written out as well.

You can also call your DVM and have a medic alert put on your DL. I'm supposed to do it because of the clotting disorder, but I've never followed through on it.

There is zero medication restrictions with VSG. It's published all over the research articles, but some surgeons "err on the side of caution" and restrict their patients. I've been taking NSAIDs for a year, and have zero issues. I always take them with something on my stomach just like I did pre-op. It's recommended, and since my stomach is the exact same as it was before just smaller, I'm taking NSAIDS over Tylenol any day of the week.

For now I have added my bariatric surgery status to my ICE (In case of emergency) contacts in my cell phone. This is also one of the areas police officers are trained to look in emergency situations. They recommend that everyone set at least three emergency contacts in your cell phones under the name ICE. I just added a 4th ICE with the word medical after ICE. Then, under work phone I entered Bariatric Surgery Patient. Under mobile phone, I entered my drug allergies. Your phone might give you some issues with entering text in these numeric fields but you should be able to do it if you play with it. I did a copy and paste from a text field to the numeric field and it worked fine. This allowed the info to show up immediately when the contact was selected without anyone having to go further into to contact to view my info. (Dang Windows Mobile phone crab I guess.)

I am going to add this info to the emergency card in my wallet and will check into adding it to my driver's license as Tiff suggested. I thought about getting an alert Bracelet but I know I wouldn't wear it everyday, so not sure it will really be helpful for me. I do however have my wallet and cellphone with me everywhere I go.

I spoke with my surgeon a couple weeks ago and she said the Medical Alert Bracelet wasn't necessary for VSGers.

Yay, more room for other bracelets on my wrist! LOL:thumbup:

Disp4so: I had my surgery at Kaiser Fremont :confused1:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
