Tomorrow will be a week since I was sleeved and I am feeling so great.. The only difficult part is getting mixed messages between my nutritionist and dr... The DR progresses you through the phases much more quickly than my nutritionist. When I was at the hospital he told me to go ahead and start on my Protein shakes with skim milk the next day after surgery. When I went to see him in the office on FRI - he told me to start on the mushy phase (fish, egg, veggies, etc.) and since I don't see my NUT until the end of the month, I really didn't know what to do. So, this is my 6th day since surgery and as he said, I tried fish today... It went down well -- no problems. Should I be worried that I am going to quickly? I know my NUT gave me a breakdown of 3 days of Clear liquids, 4 days of full liquid, 5 days of mushy foods, and the rest of the month soft foods... The dr --- advanced me to the end?

Should I worry if I haven't had pain and seem to be doing well?

every Doc is so different, mine was Clear Liquids for 7 days, then mushies (eggs,Jello pudding, refried beans) for 21 days then post op 30 days full food. I found a link on the forum to Cornwell dietary guidelines, you can do a search for it, that might help.

I'd err on the side of being conservative. The longer you can give your staple line to heal the better. My doctor and much of the advice I've seen on the boards advances patients through clears to full liquides then purees without introducing soft or regular foods until a month after surgery.

It'll be over sooner than you think. I've got 3 more days and can't believe how quickly it all went by. Not being hungry helps. I was miserable during the post-op diet phase when I got my band.

Inconsistencies among what the doctor, his handout instructions, his staff, and the nut said drove me crazy, too. I decided to listen to the doctor most, and take everything with a pinch of salt.

.... but not too much salt, eh? :biggrin0:

My doctor was adamant I shouldn't be on clear liquids. I went straight onto things like pureed potatoes, apple puree, etc. I'm on mushy food now, and all seems well.....

I would say go with your gut and follow what your doctor says. Both my doc and nutritionist were on the same page, two weeks clear, two weeks thick liquids, two weeks soft foods and then solids. Right now I am at the soft foods stage and I am not as lucky as you, I am not digesting well....

Good luck to you!

It's funny how everyone's dr is different... Well, since the surgery (today is 1 week and 1 day post op) I am eating yogurt, creamy Soups, chicken Soup, -- I even ate a piece of fish with some veggies. I was barely able to eat 4oz but everything went down great. No, issues. (knock on wood) Today I am having black bean Soup with an egg in it..

Every day is a learning experience but I am so exited to only be able to eat a 1/2 cup at the most of things. I am also trying to weigh myself only once a week because daily was worrying me when I saw a gain :) But, in one week I have lost 7 pds I think... Prior to surgery I couldn't imagine losing 1 lb during the week!! :biggrin0:

Same here, my dr and his office were a little more conservative while the head of the bariatric program told me to advance sooner.... which I did because I was STARVING on mushies. Everything has been fine for me but you will just have to decide what you feel comfortable with.

I discovered during my preop appointments that my surgeon had recently changed his postop diet to advance more quickly than it had in the past. I got the impression from someone at the hospital that the nutritionists were not thrilled about it, so it sounds like they are a more conservative bunch. I decided that there is no way my surgeon would allow the diet to advance without proof from his earlier patients (or other doctors' patients) that it has been safe to do so. Why would he risk messing up all his hard work on my insides?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
