Well, I had surgery with Dr. Aceves on 7/01 which was a piece of cake. The worst part for me was having that drain pulled out, and it wasn't even painful, just...creepy feeling. But now I'm home and asking myself, is everything ok? I just had a mug full of broth, isn't that too much? Will my new tummy hold more than 6 oz. because it's Clear liquids and they go through so much quicker? I'm kind of freaking out because I'm feeling so good, what if Dr. Aceves got in there and forgot to cut out my stomach?

Anyway, the only other problem I've had is some gas, and that's managable with my Gas X strips. Anyone who can help put my mind at ease, thanks a mil....

Allison

Congratulations Ally! It sounds like you're coming along nicely after surgery. I don't know if I can say anything to put your mind at ease because it seems like everyone is so different with how much their new stomachs can hold. I do think that in general it is not good to judge your stomach volume while on Clear Liquids because they are made to slide through pretty much like Water. So, your volume would be limitless to some extent. Just serve yourself the recommended amount from your postop diet and you should be fine.

I wasn't given any post-op dietary advice at all, so have muddled along... It does feel strange, being out and eating by ourselves, doesn't it?! I bought a cookery book of lovely recipes from Amazon, which I shall use - you can use the same recipe at each stage (pur?e, 'lumpy' and 'normal').

You are doing great. Don't worry. I felt the same as I never had problems getting my liquids and Protein Drinks in immediately post op. I am now a little over 6 months out and believe me, I can definately tell my stomach is smaller!!!! I was really pissed yesterday for the 4th of July picnic. I was really gonna pig out but only managed 2 bites of a garbanzo bean salad and 1/2 a Johnsonville brats. Had some more as "left overs" today. I even squeezed a bite of cake in today but was miserable after.

Congratulations on your new sleeve. You are gonna love it!!!!!!

Hi, Nurse_ally. It is easier with the liquids, I drank 2 oz every 15 minutes and by the 5th day could hold more but when you add the mushies you'll see the denser the food the fuller you feel. I'm so glad you are doing well, it's an amazing tool.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
