How long until the pain starts going down?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I got sleeved June 30th, and wow it's been quite the journey. For all the veterans, how long until your pain started going down? I'm having a lot of trouble with it, and it's such a mood killer. I'm always grumpy with everyone...is this normal? I'm terrified. :)

There's really no way anyone can tell you that because everybody is different. I can tell you that for both me and my husband by about days 3-4 we started noticing feeling much better each day and by about 10 days we felt pretty darn good. But then pulled some scar tissue which hurt again for a couple weeks. I didn't have any problems with mood though, I'd be slightly cranky when trying to get comfy in bed at night but during the day was pretty chipper.

First, congrats on your surgery!

The first couple of days are the worst. You will feel better every day. Everyone is different, like Christie said, but the sooner you get back to a normal schedule, the better you should feel.

By two weeks, I felt normal and would have to remind myself that I had surgery, especially when I was eating or drinking! : )

Did you travel for surgery or were you able to stay close to home?

For sleeping, I used extra pillows. When I laid on my side, I would put a pillow between my knees as well as along the side of my body to support my stomach. It really made a difference. If I was laying on my back, I put a pillow under my legs from the knees down. Took some pressure off my abdomen.

Good luck! Hope your recovery goes smoothly!

I was sleeved on June 29, and the first 3-4 days post-op were very difficult for me, I was experiencing a lot of pain and discomfort. However it started to subside on day 4, and today, which is day 5, I'm feeling a lot better. I do still have some discomfort, but it is tolerable. I am also experiencing discomfort when laying down, it takes me forever to position myself with pillows until I get a comfy position.

I was able to go out and do some shopping today and some light gardening. My husband is taking good care of me and watches over me to be sure that I don't do to much.

Pillows are the key!! Prop yourself up as high as possible, it was the only way i could sleep at the time. The reflux and pain was pretty bad. If you can get an RX for Nexium, it is a god-send. I felt the pain for about 2 weeks after surgery but thankfully it went away. I believe due to the swelling being so severe after surgery. I promise it will get better! I have no pain or nausea at all anymore!! Also, a little tip, when i had the severe pain and cramping, i got the Rolaids soft chews in the cherry flavor. They helped tremendously. I keep them by my bedside table and if i wake up with any discomfort i chew one up and it helps me get back to sleep quickly.

Thank you so much! I'm so happy to finally get this surgery after it's been planned for so long.

Anyway, I was pretty close to home. The hospital is about 5 minutes away. And I took your advice on the pillows, and I'm doing much better! Thanks!

I'll definitely try the Rolaids! I've been having trouble going to sleep since I usually sleep on my stomach. I wake up with a huge amount of back pain.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
