I'm terrified of not getting enough nutrients

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post-op, and I am TERRIFIED that I'll not be able to get the nutrients I need. I can't comsume the volumes needed to ensure that I have at least 70 of Protein per day. Everything I read says to stop when you feel full. Mixing Muscle Milk Light into 12 oz. of skim milk. I drink 2 ounces and feel like i'm gonna pop. I'm scared and alone and need help.

Don't put so much pressure on yourself for the first week or two. You are swollen and recovering. The next few days are going to get easier and easier. Very few sleevers get the Protein in the first week. You are fine (easier said than believed, I know)!!!

Today is my 4th day too -- and the first couple of days if I didn't eat -- no problem. But today, for the first time, I am hungry. Is that normal? I even had a headache. I have been eating every 3 hours and sipping but it seems like I am still hungry? Could it be head hunger? Or am I really hungry? I feel hungrier than when I was doing the pre-op diet???

Maybe a little of both. Does sucking on a SF Popsicle help?

You will be fine : )

In the beginning, it took me an hour to get 2 ounces down! Then you factor in the down drink too soon before or after, and I could never get the fluids in. It was a mad circle.

You will get better every day and it will get easier. Promise!

I found Premier chocolate Protein shakes at costco. They were about $22 for 18?? Each one is 11 oz, 160 calories and 30 protein! Those made a huge difference for me! I have one almost every morning and sometimes again later in the day. Tonite - I had a late snack so haven't had dinner. I might have one now before bed.

Also - I just had complete lab work done a couple of weeks ago. Everything was just fine except for Vitamin D, which was a little low. Keep in mind that the sun doesn't shine here in the PNW very often : ) I am on an RX for Vit D for 12 weeks, by then, the sun should be out for our two weeks of summer. LOL

Do what you can now - don't stress out and get a little exercise. It will all come together : )

All good advice above here. For the 1st week concentrate on drinking enough Water and walking/being mobile. Be kind to yourself. You will be OK, we're all here and that proves its possible !!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
