So tempted to shop for smaller clothes...are you?

Recommended Posts

OMG, in Florida on vacation now - there are all kinds of cute clothes we don't have in Canada. Every time I'm in the mall, it's SO hard to resist buying something cute in a size medium....and I'm resisting buying anything for my current size unless it's stretchy or something like a wrap or cardigan that I could wear even if I was 20 lbs lighter - don't want to waste money on stuff that might fall off of me in 2 months....I'm sure I'm not alone here!

I will happily buy clothes when I need them. That being said, I bought some little button extenders today when I realized that not only could they make the pants bigger...they could make them smaller too. At least for a little while!

I've been buying stuff second-hand while it's still a little too small to wear, 'cause it only takes a few weeks before it suddenly fits great and the other stuff isn't fit to wear anymore!

AND, over the last two weeks I've been able to pull out and very comfortably wear two pairs of capris, three pairs of shorts, and a pair of jeans that I bought 7 years ago (after losing 40 lbs. on Atkins) without trying on, and they didn't fit. Weren't even close. Don't worry... eventually you'll get into them! :)

I am tempted a lot of the times too but here is the thing. Sometimes even at my size now something will FIT as in, be the correct size, but it doesn't fit correctly or doesn't flatter. I figure this can be the same at any size. So even though I KNOW I'll be a size 16, why buy something now, because just getting to a 16 doesn't mean it will fit me right. So that could be a waste of money. I did buy ONE thing that is much smaller as a comparison dress for later in a size 12, but it's easily alterable if it doesnt' fit right. I avoid it with anything else.

Oh, I went wild! I have NEVER been able to buy what I wanted and I only ever got to a BMI of 35, which seems ridiculous. I was obese yes, but not shaped so that I needed to wear a tent. I had recognizeable waist, hips and bustline, I could have worn most of what was out there if it came in anything over a size 16 (which is about a US 12). Only "fat clothes" do here in Australia, size 16 is about the top of most regular stores range.

I had soooooooo many clothes. It was a joyful moment every time I got into one of them. I bought so much once I'd booked my surgery!

I did slow down, and now I dont shop nearly so much. I dont need that validation of buying somethign to make me feel good about myself and what I do buy, I actually like so I keep it and wear it again and again. I used to buy clothes wear them once and throw them out becuase they didnt magically make me look good.

I haven't been sleeved yet but I figure I will probably be buying my clothes from Goodwill for awhile as I run through sizes. Plus wear a lot of adjustable styles, wrap tops, waist-tie tops, plain flat front trousers that are easily tailored. I do however go to websites with clothes I like but have never been able to wear and I "window shop" online, selecting petite sizes, hee hee hee!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
