Las Vegas Dr's/experiences

Recommended Posts

I am 2.5 months into the six month supervised diet and know I will be having surgery in Las Vegas. I won't finish the diet until October but need to have the surgery before the end of the year to avoid possible cutting of insurance benefits, increase in rates/deductibles, new deductibles, etc. My question is, to all of you who have any experience at all with Las Vegas dr's, what was the pre-op/post-op diet like, cost, testing required before surgery (ekg, pulmonary, barium, sleep apnea, etc), follow up care, office experience, any mandatory weight loss before surgery that this six month diet wouldn't count for, etc. I saw the recent post on Dr Umbach, and he is on my list, which also included some info on other surgeons in the area, also on my list, but I am looking for a little more detailed info than what was provided in that post.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Danae

For Dr. Umbach, you can go to Lap Band Las Vegas - Gastric Bypass Nevada - Weight Loss Surgery to get additional information. I met Dr. Umbach through Medical Tourism and was quoted $10,900 for the procedure which included pretty much everything except flight costs, pre-op testing and pysch eval (insurance covered these) and my nutritional counseling. Worth every penny to me!

Sorry - I don't know more on other doctors in Vegas, but other may chime in.

Hello all i know this is a fairly old thread but i cant seem to find anyone out there that has poased anything on DR. Teng in Las Vegas. I have am still in the jusping through hoops for the insurance stage, but so far Dr. Teng and his staff have been super excelent. They answer all questions, are so supportave, and even call my insurance multipul times cuz the insurance company had no idaea what they were doing and I could not get any answers from them. As for pre op tests he does not require much only to see his Nutritionish and to see a phych consult either his or your insurances, also some simple blood work and an h pilori test ( breath into a bag nothing to it) and the ever fun uppper GI ( really was kinda cool got to see my tummy working) that was it for me but i am only at a 40 bmi with no co morbidity issues. If you do happen to have a history of issues you may need to see a cadioligist and a pulminologist. and thay will even make the apts for you so you dont have to sit on the phone for ever with the various drs. So all in all i know that there are not many good Dr.'s in Vegas actually swore I would never have sergery here but Dr. Teng really is excelent.

Thank you for the information. I went to Dr Atkinson's seminar and it was ok, but I really wanted more info on DR Teng since he was my first choice. I plan on going down to his seminar next month and checking it out. Did they quote you a price? Are there any fees you have to pay directly to the Dr, not covered by insurance? Dr Atkinson requires $150 to go to their Physch and then $250 for a nutrition fee that they say is listed wrong because it is actually for filing paperwork, etc. Can the upper GI be done through your PCP? I live in UT and don't want to have to make too many trips to Vegas. Thanks for your help..

First if you go to Dr. Tengs seminar at the end he and his assistant stay at the end for as long as it takes to answer evey ones questions (I recomend you stay even if you dont have any questions cuz there may be questions answered that you did not even know you had). I did ask the price for the sleeve at one of my visits they said with insurance for me it would cost about $3000 total for the Dr. and the hospital with insurance and about $20,000 for self pay. May be different with your insurance just ask the assistant she is very helpfull. My insurance did cover the pshych eval and most of the GI I will have to pay $95 for his Nutrishionalist. And the Upper GI can be done around your home anywhere as far as I know just let the person filling out your script where you want it done, he does not have one particular place for that. Also he also requires for some people depending on your current health a cardio and or pulminary test which I did not have to do but would guess that insurance would cover that. I hope I was able to answer your questions if you have any more please dont hesitate to ask. :D He really is great good luck with your new adventure.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
