Hi Everyone...looking for some info....

Recommended Posts

I have been looking into WLS for years now and was under the impression that the lapband would be right for me. However, after further research I have really come to like the VSG. So now it's a matter of gathering more info (can you ever have enough? lol).

I plan to be a self-pay patient because our wonderful insurance companies would rather treat all the comorbidities that come with obesity rather than to treat the actual problem cursing.gif. So my questions are:

1) Has anyone used Global Surgery Center?

2) Has anyone had VSG surgery with Dr. Edgar Leino in the Dominican Republic?

3) What was the cost?

Look forward to any and all replys!

Thanks,

Rose

I've never heard of that doctor but I was self pay here in Louisiana and it was $13,600 and that includes a year of follow up complication care and a year of regular follow-up with the surgeon.

For what it's worth..I think you're making the correct decision to go with the sleeve over the band!

Good luck to you.

I think the sleeve is a great decision. just choose your surgeon carefully, there is supposed to be some really great cash pay doc's..I think in Dallas or like Goodlife said in Louisiana.

Hi and welcome

I'm sure you'll find this forum useful....and hopefully get the info you're seeking.

I was a self pay but here in Spain. The quickest way to get price info is to contact the Drs directly... as their price structure may have changed from other peoples surgery. I can certainly recommend the sleeve - as can most on here.... and certainly don't regret my decision.

Its all my birthdays and Christmas's come together!!

Good luck

Kathy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
