I was on zoloft before surgery, but havent had any since, and I think I need to start them up again, does anyone else have to take these?

If so, how are you taking them? I am 6 days out from surgery.

Thanks,

Lisa

Definitely talk with your M.D. ASAP. Most antidepressants need to be tapered off. I take antidepressants and I only missed the day of surgery. I crushed them the first couple of weeks and put them in yogert or no sugar added apple sauce. I'm not sure about the particular one that you take.

I have taken Prozac for many years (family history of chemical imbalances). I mixed mine with a little Water for the first couple of days, but it was WAY NASTY tasting! I was able to swallow the pill at about one week out.

I know that I do much better if I take my antidepressant and because I am making a major change in my life style, I don't think this is the time to change that!

I was able to take small pills from about day four.

coming off antidepressants without tapering often causes a rebound effect resulting in greater depression than experienced before medication. Also... we all know about the possibility of post op depression on its own. Those two things combined could be setting you up for a major depression which is no joke.

who knows... maybe you'll be just fine. The euphoria of weight loss and the hopefullness that comes with it may offset it some. Its worth consulting your doc about. My suggestion is that if it is perscribed, you're probably better off taking it.

good luck

Stacey

Hey Lisa,

I don't know how big a Zoloft pill is, but I was taking small pills in the hospital the night of my surgery after my leak test or by the next morning (the time line is a little fuzzy.) Of course your surgeon has to approve this, but I think once you can swallow enough Water to carry a small pill down to your stomach, it will sit there and disolve just fine. My first couple of pills were a little rough to get down, but no vomiting or anything.

Definitely call your surgeon ASAP and clear this with them. I'm surprised your discharge instructions didn't include this... They didn't give you any meds by mouth when you were in the hospital? Most stuff can be found in some variation in liquid form if the pill is too big...I think they should have already covered this with you before discharge.

I take Zoloft and skipped them the first two days, dissolved them in Water for a few days and starting at about a week out I was able to swallow them after I broke them in half. At 2.5 weeks I was able to swallow them whole.

Presuming you have not been having any problems keeping anything down, I would try to break it in half and see how that goes. If you have trouble with that still, talk to your doctor. The low dose pills are pretty small and even if you have to take 4 to get to your dosage it can be done.

Thanks everyone for the helpfull replies.

I crushed one yesterday and it was GROSS..lol.

But at least I got it down. I worry about my little tummy leaking, so I am trying to stick

to the rules as closely as I can.

I will try to keep getting it down with a little yogurt, then start the pills regular form when I

got to mushies.

I didnt know that stopping them like that could cause a rebound effect, thats good to know.

Thanks,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I started taking my antidepressants on my third day post-op. My surgen approved starting them on Day 2, but I wanted to wait an extra day just to be safe (and I was barely getting anything in at all on Day 2).

When I take my pills, it is the only time that I disobey the rule to not drink anything after you eat. I usually eat 1/2 sugarfree pudding or fat free yogurt to "coat my stomach" so the pills don't give me cramps. Sometimes psych meds can make your stomach hurt if you take them on an empty stomach. (FYI: I take Wellbutrin, Lamictal, and Cymbalta -- all at the same time -- 4 pills total).

I don't crush/open them. I take them in the same way I did before surgery.

I started taking pain pills and other medications the day after surgery while still in the hospital- and they were HUGE pills, and the doctor approved them. I would not worry about leaking from swallowing a pill.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
