Has anyone a month post op tried hotdogs? For me it goes down kind of easy compared to other meats. I can only eat a half in a sitting but I am loving them. I s this ok to eat??

I'm not even on mushies yet but my concern would be the nutritional content of them... they are very high in fat compared to 'normal' meat.... and the carbs must be high as well as usually they're mixed with some form of breadcrumbs or meal.

In my book per 100g(4oz) theres 15g fat 295 cals, 29g carb and only 7g Protein.

Whereas even a leg of ham pre packed per 100g is 4g fat, 108 cals, 0 carbs and 19g Protein.< /p>

food for thought if you're counting carbs and cals.....

I tried some the other day in beenie weenies. The Beans were great but the hot dogs didn't taste good...but it went down. They have turkey dogs that are a pretty good choice healthwise...Check the label.

I wasn't a fan of hot dogs pre-op. It was kind of a ballpark, cookout food only. Even then, it'd be the last thing I order.

But, I have had this weird craving for them over the last year. I actually only wanted barbque weenies. Just a hot dog sliced up, and then heated in a saucepan until super hot with Kraft barbque sauce. I found out that I can't eat them anymore. I tried eating a couple of bites of a corndog. That was a no go as well. I did try to eat some of those "little smokies" or cocktail weenies at a get together a couple of weeks ago. They were in a crockpot full of barbque sauce, and once again, I was nauseated, and felt like a brick hit my stomach.

I'll just keep away from them from now on.

I ate fat-free Oscar Meyer ones pre-op and hope to be able to still enjoy them on occasion once I get further out post-op. I could see how the casings on some of them and/or the high fat content of some types might give us trouble though.

My doctor actually has hotdogs on his list of approved meats starting at the mushies stage. He said try to pick healthier ones instead of the full fat ones.

I occaisinally eat the Oscar Meyer Fat Free ones. Yummy!

I am not sleeved yet, but I really like the Hebrew National 97% FF hot dogs. They are 45 calories for one hot dog, only 6 grams of Protein but might be a better option than the higher fat/calorie ones.

I've tried chopping some into my scramble egg and it didn't go down as smoothly. I haven't tried since but at this point have no desire to do so.

SParkle - In the states the hot dogs do not include as many carbs. Most average 1.5 oz. and 1-5 carbs. The regular beef hebrew national is only 1g carb.

Thanks - not the case over here on the ones we can get, whether spanish or otherwise.............I think I am just too aware of what they put into them... or not as the case maybe.... sausages of any type have never been my favourite - if I have meat I want it to be 'proper' meat rather than processed.

I only buy beef hotdogs, so maybe that's another healthier option than the mystery meat brands that are out there. Of course you can't control this when you're at the ballpark or whereever, but there are lots of options in the grocery store.

I'm a big baseball fan, and my treat when I go to games is a chili dog (Ben's Chili Bowl in DC.) I take a bite or two with the bun and then use a fork and knife to eat the just the hot dog and chili. Probably looks strange - like Mr. Pitt eating a Snickers - but it works for me. It was actually the third thing I tried when I graduated from mushies to soft foods.

I love hot dogs too. I don't worry so much about the fat content. I'm looking for flavor and can eat so little of the darn thing that I'm not getting too much fat anyway. And, in case I'm tempted to come back to it later and try to finish . . . my trusty dog Ashley follows me everywhere and is more than happy to remove the offending remains from my clutches!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
