I told my hubby, my mother in law (who told my father-in-law), my mother (who told my father) and 3 very close friends. Didn't want the skepticism of others. Too much pressure if too many people were in on it.

I may share with more after goal, but right now I am content with my little circle.

I made the choice to only tell a select few......I just felt that I would be under a microscope and since I am a struggling bandster...I think it was in my best interest not to share......

That's just me.....My mom, husband, sister, and like 3 friends are the only people that know. I also felt that my women friends would treat me funny.....

Hi,

Well, I'm now about 7 months out. I've lost very slowly (down about 35 lbs), so again, I'm so glad I didn't tell everyone. I already feel like the ones I did tell are wondering "Why isn't she losing more?". Honestly, I'm wondering that myself, so I don't fault them for wondering that, too. But I'm glad it's only them and not everyone around me. I'm guessing when my weight loss becomes more noticeable (it's been so gradual no one has really even noticed) I'll start getting questions. Then I'll have to decide whether I'm telling anyone else or not. Thanks for keeping this thread going. It seems like an issue many people struggle with.

I told everyone who asked or would listen in the beginning, and gladly so.

I had a lot of people in my life who were skeptical, and by telling them, it put me under a microscope, and I found it pushing me even harder to succeed. I am glad for it now.

18 months post op. At goal!!

210 pounds lost.

Starting BMI of 54, 24 now.

Life is good!!

I am also a "slow loser" but if you look at it you lost 4#per month- THE healthy way- SLOW!! Just think you didnt gain- you lost!!!

Your band did exactly what it was suppose to do!! 1-2pounds per week.

I cant speak for you- but I CANT lose that without my band. In my case my dietary habits were not that bad- the portions were too large but I made healthy food choices MOST of the time- I think that plays a HUGE role in the speed of loss. IF you ate crap , put on your weight then couldnt eat any junk the weight probably is going to fall off of you- Dont know but thats the only explanation/rationale I can come up with for not losing as fast as everyone else!!

HANG IN THERE!!! Its coming off not going on!!!

Initially I told my husband, of course, my close friends, and I mentioned it to my mother early enough on so she would have time to get used to the idea. She wasn't supportive, but I didn't expect her to be. I got the expected "But you could die!" from her and so forth. Husband is amazing. Friends are great. Then as it has gotten closer ( I just scheduled it for march) I've mentioned it to other people I eat with. People who are going to notice that I'm drinking low carb slimfast for preop instead of eating cornchips. And still more liquids afterwards. And all that. Now all those people might not agree (these are people in my religious group) but I know they will be supportive.

I don't mind people sharing or telling others. At the same time I'm not going to "advertise" it myself. When I was younger I learned that people can be really judgemental about stuff that is different- I learned this because I was too open about my religion (I'm wiccan). So this has taught me that while I can be perfectly honest about things if people ask and so forth, I don't necessarily need to shout things from the rooftops.

I've told all doctors. I've told my therapist. I'm sure my husband will mention it to a friend of his that had gastric bypass. I'll mention it to an aunt of mine that had stomach stapling. I'll tell my brother all about it afterwards (he tends to worry and if he worries he sometimes has seizure activity).

If I lose very slowly or don't lose than I'm likely going to be extra frustrated and need even more support.

I told my husband and an angel at my church who had RNY. I discussed it with my mother, but did not tell her I had a date scheduled. She's thinking about having surgery herslef. I don't want people "monitoring" me...I'm hard enough on myself.

I did not intend on letting anyone other than my immediate&close family members know.. But that didn't happen, lol. For some reason i felt alittle embarassed and i wanted it to be this huge secret.

I work with a lot of health care people - so i told a couple friends there and i figure they're going to see my lose weight and start asking.. I feel okay about it now, the ones who know have been very supportive.

However, I don't plan on announcing it to EVERYONE.. MAYBE if people ask. Other than that.. I'll keep quite for the most part.

I told no one, not even my family. I am very glad I told no one. I don't get any flak, just compliments on how great I look. Everyone thinks I had hernia surgery, which actually I also had along with the band. So I just omitted one detail.

I only told my parents and I'm glad that's all that I told. I didn't want people to think ok here she goes again. I also didn't want the added pressure of feeling like I was being watched by everyone.

I told my husband and his family.... Sadly my mother in law decided it was her news to share and told many other people. Now I get looks whenever I see them.

I think that's definitely a very personal decision....who to tell. Everyone is different. I told everyone around me! They have all been great help and very encouraging. I DO want to be a spokesperson for the band. I am only 2 weeks banded but I was singing its praises even before I was banded! Right along with those of my surgeon, Dr. Ray in Bloomington, IN. No solution is perfect for everyone. I didn't gain 150 pounds over night and I won't lose it over night. But to think I have any option that is less invasive than RNY that I felt like I could handle....WOW that's incredible! Hopefully the insurance companies will catch up to the technology and more people who want to be banded will have that opportunity to change their lives. Do your research, make sure you are comfortable with your decision to be banded and then......follow your heart! Tell or don't tell....it doesn't matter.....the only thing that matters is making yourself happy and being healthy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
