Having researched the various alternatives I have decided on the VSG. I see all sorts of possible complications from the lap band. My self image tells me that I am not that fat. The mirror tells me otherwise. I discovered that when most overweight people tie their shoes the knot ends up on the inside of the shoe due to having to cross the legs to make the knot. My BMI is like 42. I don't want to go through the hassle of having to have the band adjusted periodically. Yet I definitely don't want to be the 1 or 2% who end up facing my creator on the operating table. However, if God wants to take me home then, so be it. Over the past few weeks having endured a diet of Protein Shakes the thought of not being able to chow down on a nice raw prime rib or even a Whopper with cheese really sucks. Will spending the $$$$ be worth it in the long run? I am sure it will be. However, my daughter, is very scared the her daddy will not me alive after the surgery. (Oh, I am getting the surgery done here in Orange County California) Any assurance would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi there

I'm only 2 weeks out and I'm sure you've read it before on here from others that my only regret is I didn't do this before. I'm a lower BMI and while still obese people don't see me as that overweight as I do carry it fairly well.

I was a self pay, and petrified to die in the op.... but on the risk of things being a lower BMI as well it wasn't that much of a deal in the end.

For me the decision about the sleeve was the fact you can still eat everything.... somethings your body may not tolerate, but in general you can have everything but just in much smaller portions. That was a massive plus, the downsides of the band and the hassles people have with it for me made a band the first one out of the equation when I was researching.

I think this could be the best gift you can give yourself and your family for years to come.

Good luck in your decision, and I'm sure you'll find all the support you are looking for on here with loads of information as well.

Kathy

I was originally going to get the band. But, when I found out how many ppl with the band ended up getting revisions due to complications, I said forget that. The sleeve made perfect sense and the number of success stories is mind boggling. On another note, I am a firm believer that if it's your time to go, then it's your time to go. It doesn't matter if you are on an operating table or taking a nap. But that's just my opinion. Best of luck on the journey, keep us posted.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
