I am 19 days post-op. Everything went great, I have been excercising since 4 days post-op, and have been on soft Proteins for two weeks now. I have had no problem eating/drinking so far. Today is my first "normal" food day.

Yesterday, though, I had around 4 ounces of skim milk over about a 30 minute time span in the morning. After about 20 more minutes, I went and did my normal workout. 3/4 mile on the treadmill, a few sets of upperbody excercises, and 3 miles on the bike. Afterward, though, when I tried sipping Water, I felt extremely full. I thought that it was because I had just worked out, so I ignored the feeling. The rest of the day, though, I had the feeling of a sour stomach. The thought of any kind of food grossed me out. I didn't eat anything all day, just took my normal supplements. I took some Pepto at night, which made me feel a bit better, but when I woke up this morning, the sour stomach feeling is back.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know what could cause this?

Thanks for the help guys!

Is this is the first milk experience?

A lot of VSG patients develop lactose intolerance. It took 2-3 weeks for mine to kick in, but it lasted for several months.

No, it wasn't my first time drinking milk. It was about the third or fourth time. But, perhaps I am developing a lactose intolerance.

I had a friend who lost around 160 pounds, due to a combo of eating disorder/smoking/drugs, and after he lost that weight, he developed a lactose intolerance.

I will keep that in mind as I go forward.

Thanks!

I used a good quality probiotic during that time. Also, once I got on Prilosec a lot of that "unsettled" icky stomach stuff resolved.

Some people find that soy milk helps tremendously, but I could not develop a taste for it at all. I hated milk pre-op, and it only got worse post-op.

Good luck ! ! ! Congrats on your loss thus far, you've done amazingly well.

Firstly it sounds like you are getting some GREAT workouts - congrats on that! I think it is probably lactose intolerance kicking in. For some people it is temporary so I'd keep trying it from time to time but maybe when you have the luxury of being home for the next few hours in case it makes you feel sick again. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
