For the first couple of weeks after surgery I didn't have any hunger. But now at a month out I am experiencing it again. It seems like I never feel "full". I know it is supposed to be a different feeling, but it is definitely not satisfying to me. I am still eating too fast, probably too much (although not any where near what I used to eat).

I am really hoping that hunger will be alleviated. Mine seems to be backwards. Everytime I eat, it makes me hungry. If I don't eat, I don't notice it as much. It's really bizarre.

I'm sorry to have to say that i feel hungry every 2-3 hours, its like i'm empty and it hurts a little, i was very disappointed i was excited about not feeling hunger. Some people say its acid but the Prilosec doesn't get rid of it. The good thing is that i eat and it goes away. I have heard that it can still go away around 3 months post op so i am living in hope that it will still happen. But its not enough to make me regret this decision, best thing i ever did

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the question is whether or not the fundus is the part of the stomach that sends the signal to your brain the you are full and keeps you from overeating. My understanding is, I am preop so I could be wrong, that once the tummy heals you will slowly be able to learn how to read your body and understand when it is telling you you have had enough. :tongue_smilie:

Maybe Prilosec doesn't work for you. I started off on omeprazole and it didn't do the trick for me. I switched to Prevacid since that's what they gave me in the hospital and it's working much better. Try another PPI...

I too had "head hunger" and wanted to eat.... I was sick the first month.. then the second and third month thought I wanted to eat everything.... thought of food alot. but it disapeared.....

I have ZERO hunger.... not even head hunger... I might think I want certain things for dinner etc... but not hungry... try to "plan" meals... but waste more food than I eat!! I hate that tooo!

I am 6 weeks out and I have NO hunger. In fact I really don't want to eat or drink at all and struggle to get in Protein and fluids. I am so restricted it takes me 2 hours to eat a small amount of anything and sipping makes my stomach feel bloated.

I have found it comes and goes, at the moment Im going thru a no hunger stage, where I literally have to force myself to eat something, I too was in my first couple months disappointed as I had hunger and wished I didnt, dont feel bad, because as I said now Im not feeling it at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
