SO Thirsty-NOTHING quenches my thirst!!!!

Recommended Posts

I remember that time very clearly!

I found that popsicles were a life saver. There are healthier lo cal ones too. Being able to hold the ice in my mouth longer than a sip seemed to help.

Eventually, you will be able to take big drinks. I can now and it is wonderful!

Good Luck!

I'm having the same at the moment, although I don't find it too hard getting my liquids in, I still feel thirsty!

I've been having skimmed milk (with 4.2g Protein per 100ml for me its a good way to boost my Protein intake too).

I also made my own popsicles out of no added sugar fruit juice.

But I do find my tastes changing and being very fickle... one day I 'll love something and the next I can't be bothered with it.

I had problems with dry mouth and a nasty taste in my mouth for several weeks after surgery. I thought that perhaps they had given me something during surgery to dry secretions and that it had some lingering effects. I just kept sipping fluids constantly. I added a small amount (1-2 teaspoons) of lemon juice to my Vitamin Water or crystal light flavored water because it seemed to help a little.

Make sure that you are getting in at least 64 oz of Fluid each day. Usually, genuine thirst is a signal that your body is dehydrated.

I wish that I could help, but I'm thirsty all the time too! I can only get in 30 oz of liquids during a day, i.e., 14 oz of Protein Shake and 16 oz of Water. I am 2 weeks out also. My stomach always feels overfull. Going to the surgeon to ask a few questions about this today, if he has any advice, I'll pass it on.

I am a little over two weeks and I have been having the same issue. Always thirsty and having to take small sips is driving me crazy. I have tried the Popsicles but I am tired of the sweets. Will this stage ever end?

I drank a lot of Kool Aid. I bought the little packets and mixed a little over half of it with 20 oz of Water and sipped all day. It is a little sugar, but I needed it. I still sip on Kool Aid. Also genuine homemade chicken broth sip sip. The reason I'm telling you these 2 things is this is what I did consistently, these 2 things, and I didn't have any problems with thirst. Sometimes i also had hot tea with agave sweetener. I think the artificial sweeteners really choked me in this way but especially early on. I still can't drink splenda in my iced tea. The particals will hit my throat and choke me. Its weird. I can do equal a little or the pink stuff. I can't do juice. I'm starting to like ice Water better now, but generally need a little flavored water of some kind.

Best wishes.

Best wishes to you

That was MISERABLE!!!! I remember it and was worried it would never go away. I started (and still do) getting route 44 ice waters from sonic or just buying sonic ice. They are crushed really finely and they sit okay on my stomach and if I have it with me I can get 44 oz down in a few hours. Good luck!

I second the Sonic ice! I'm on my 2nd bag (I'm constantly using it plus my husband loooves their ice too for his sodas). It's not even $2 for a big bag of it around here, and it's so fresh and with a nice texture perfect for sucking on when you're thirsty.

I am 2 weeks out also. My stomach always feels overfull. Going to the surgeon to ask a few questions about this today, if he has any advice, I'll pass it on.

Doctor has me chewing pepcid to help with the acid and heartburn. He also gave me a prescription for gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a condition in which the stomach doesn't push stuff to the small intestines, sort of like a little paralysis. Caused me to be extremely full after just a little to drink, nauseous, etc. He was going to put me in the hospital to hydrate and put an NG tube down my nose to feed me. He did say that my #1 task is to stay hydrated, then get my Protein in.

He did explain what the sleeve looked like and how I should be able to get everything in because the top of the stomach is like a small banana, but there is a bulb at the end that would hold the food for digestion. I guess I didn't recognize that from all the pictures that I've seen of the sleeve.

Hopefully, this will work because it couldn't get much worse.

Anyone else have problems with this?

The above posting doesn't help with the Water issue, but I did suck on ice cubes today and it seemed to help quite a bit. Freezing juice might help too.

I used to bite or suck on a lemon wedge when I was thirsty and could not quench my thirst. I don't know why it worked, but somebody told me to try it and it did work.

I didn't know Sonic sells their ice in a bag. I love the texture! The hospital where I do my clinicals has great ice also but It would be nice to have it have home. I'm a gulper so it is going to be hard to sip sip sip. Especially with the thirsty feeling you guys are talking about. Hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
