Hi everyone! My name is Alice and i had surgery sept last year with Dr.Alami.I was/am retired so I didn't have a job to go back to and i am glad for that.I had no problems and just took it easy but was waiting til I "felt like myself" again.it seemed to take about a month.so it is different for everyone and maybe it depends on your age too.take care,i am enjoying the encouragement we all give to each other.i didn't like the fact that the rny and sleeve were lumped together with almost no info on the sleeve and that drove me to web sites such as this and obesityhelp.com to get my questions answered or i might have had a different surgery.

I have 3 weeks slated out per Dr. Alami.

I have a two week appointment with Dr. Li -lee(?) at that point they determine if you need more time or not.

My wife was back at work at two weeks- however she only works p/t and at a desk.

I walk aprox 6 miles aday and stand and lift almost all the time. I will if my body lets me, be in my cellar the third week working on my wines-

that will simulate work and get me ready. (hehehe) a full week playing with wine- maybe I can try for a second week ;)

Hi everyone. First of all, you guys who r up for surgery, you will be thrilled. I am almost 5 months out.. I have lot 53 lbs. I went from size 18 to 10 so far. I went from size 2XL to med/large tops. II am 25 lbs fro goal. I feel amazing. I do weight training and Zumba. I haven't lost much weight this past month but the inches are melting. I went down a whole size.

Think and look beyond the first few days after surgery. It's really a great experience.

Best to you.

Hi Lisa Lisa my sleeve buddy. Ok I can remember you in the hospital and you were walking like crazy--down to my room and beyond. I wanted to feel half as good as you looked but it was tough. Congratulations on being so close to your goal. You are really doing this!

I'm down from 381 to 244 since our surgery in January. That's 137 pounds gone forever! I love walking now and I'm getting in 3.5 miles in an hour. Sometimes I wish SF didn't have so many damn hills! LOL.

You inspire me to get more weights in as a part of my exercise program. I go to the gym but pumping Iron is right up there with root canal for me. Not my favorite.

Keep up your great work. You are awesome and amazing.

It's different for all of us. I have a good friend who was tired for what seemed like forever. Thankfully she didn't have to go into a job for work so could really honor her process. We each have our own path. The main thing that I learned in the early days was not to compare myself to other people. Everyone lost so much faster than I did and it drove me nuts when I thought I should be just like them. We all have so many factors: Where we started from, age (I'm 60), physical condition when starting (I was already a walker), male or female (I'm female). Men shed those pounds so much faster than us women!!

Just know that you'll eventually get exactly where you want to go.

Lee,

You are doing so great! Each time I see you when we carpool to Richmond group, you look tinyer and tinyer.

I owe you and others that went through surgery first a big thank you for always being willing to share all your great knowledge and experiences with us. You helped me make these last five months much easier because of your generous nature.

Thank you!

thanks so much kawika. I was totally feeling like a failure lat month because lack of pounds lost. However I gained victory when I went to the mall and all of a sudden was wearing a size 10 from a 14. I carry a lot of muscle in my legs but gotta lotta fat in my lower tummy. It's going down though. I have been very open about my surgery. One lady told me I took the easy way out. Haha. Whatever. If weight loss were easy, I would be a size 4. I do Bootcamp and zumba.

You are inspirational. I can't believe you've lost 137 lbs! High five my friend. How much more are u shooting for? Keep up the great work. How much can u eat in a meal now? I vary at meals. Sometimes I can eat a whole enchilada out of a corn tortilla and sometimes I can only eat a few bites, just to Put the portion in perspective for you.

We are on our way to Disneyland to Celebrate our 17th anniversary. Talk soon. Aloha, LisaLisa

OK everyone with surgery coming up.... How long did you get off work? Dr Alami is giving me 3 1/2 weeks off work. My boss loved to hear that, but it makes me super nervous. It just doesn't sound like enough time. I thought 6 weeks was pretty standard and know people who took 8 weeks. 17 days till surgery for me!

Babysista- I feel the same way as you... I'm glad Dr Fisher refused to do my surgery for so long, I might have been stuck with a band! Of course, I'm also glad I switched to SSF because Dr Alami rocks!

I also thought I would get at least 4-6 weeks off. Dr Alami told me he would only give me 3 weeks. I am praying I up and back to normal by then because my job is not too keen on extended cases. I would rather him give me the 6 weeks and if I am feeling better sooner I can go back to work. But he seems like a stickler when it comes to that. We will see......

Heather, when is your pre-op class? I have my on Tues the 7th.

Hi Sing,

3 weeks seems to be standard, but a few people I've talked with have taken much less time. My friend took 3 weeks then went back to work part time for one more week. She was mostly tired and having issues with stomach acid so she needed some additional time. Another friend only took a week, which I thought was incredibly short, but she was completely fine afterwards. I'm hopeful that I won't need to take the full three weeks, but we shall see :) I have my surgery this coming Monday and will post back how I'm feeling...I hope to be home by Wednesday :) You'll have to post back about your surgery as well. I would love to hear about it! We are definitely in this boat together :) Good luck!!

Dargar,

You will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow and the days to come :D . Post when u can..... Its weird that they would give patients with the lap band longer and this surgery is more invasive than the band. I know Dr Alami told me that he would try and do the 1 incision on me and I would be in the hospital over nite.

I had surgery on January 3rd, and was back to work 11 days later, on the 14th. I work retail, and was on my feet the whole time, but it really wasn't too bad. The lat hour was the hardest, I was really tired at that point, but it was okay. At 3 weeks, you will feel much better and will probably be climbing the walls! good luck!!

You know what I say when I get one of those "you took the easy way out" charmers...The sleeve didn't make my weight loss easy...it made it possible! I truly believe that too. I could nave never done this on my own. I then let them know of all the work that has gone into my program and I hope I have educated them just a little bit about weight loss surgery.

My 137 pounds lost includes the 39 I lost prior to surgery but I am real happy with everything. I totally hear you about somedays being able to eat more than others. I find that morning is difficult for me to eat much but dinner is much easier. I can eat about a cup to a cup and a half of food at any one meal--depending on what the food is. Dense Protein is much tougher for me to get much in and things like yogurt and cottage cheese are real sliders for me.

I'm still hoping we get in the same six month check-up class. It's a group class.

Have fun in the Happiest Place on Earth and congratulations on 17 years!!!

Aloha,

David (Kavika)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
