New Member, 6/28/10 Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site, but excited to connect with people who can relate to what I'm going through. We just returned from a family cruise (34 people) in celebration of my grandmother's 95th bday, so I just started my Opti Fast today. So far it's been okay, I thought I would be a lot hungrier. I have been somewhat cranky, but my husband has been great.

I look forward to sharing my story with you all; I now know where I can go if I need some moral support!

Welcome !! I'm a newbie also. We have the same surgery date. I've been lurking around this site for 3 - 4 months and it has a wealth of information. Everyone is very supportive. We can go through this journey together since we have the same start date. I'll be having my surgery in San Francisco with Dr. Jossart......I'm finally calming down. Had my last hurdle yesterday. My pre op chest showed a possible lung nodule. It turned out to be a congenital anomaly of one of my blood vessels. I'm so relieved. Didn't want to have surgery only to die of lung cancer in 5 years. My friend said at least I would have a smaller casket.

Thanks Loozie, Breezy! Today is day 2 of Opti-Fast Protein Meals, and so far, so good. I'm not really hungry, which surprised me! I do my pre-op next week, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
