few questions from a new sleever...

Recommended Posts

had my band to sleeve revision yesterday. came home this morning.

have a few quesions:

1. is being sick to your stomach normal? i have had one episode of dry heaves today....nothing came up, so i guess thats good.

2. i have to FORCE myself to drink. i haven't eaten at all today. so far i've drank about 16 ozs of Water and an 11 oz protien shake. and it's taken me all day. will that get easier? i'm worried i'm not going to get my fluids / protien in.

3. all i want to do is sleep. i dont remember being this tired or having the above issues when i had the band put in.

I can so relate to your situation. I had surgery on 5.21.10 and

1. I was sick to my stomach for about 3 to 4 days but every day got a little better. Believe it or not moving around and walking really helped work the anestetic out of my system

2. Fluids will get easier day by day. Try warm fluids or popsicles which are really cold. Depending on the time of day would determine which one I could get more of.

Right now hydration is the main key. Protein will come

3. I am 3 weeks out and I am still rebounding on the energy. I think it is a mixture of lose of fluids/dehydration and the anestetic that is in our systems.

Remember that you may have some additional issues because you were a previous band patient. Allow yourself time to heal and just do all you can to keep hydrated.

I wish you luck

Day 4 will start to look up...the first few days I measured 1 oz drinks, and took them every 5-10 minutes. I would wake up in the middle of the night and sit for an hour sipping...everyone is different, but just keep some liquids going.

My first few days were strictly Clear Liquids .. ice, Water, Crystal Light, Jello, etc. .. no Protein drinks until the third or fourth day. Maybe you started too soon? I walked around with a 1 oz medicine cup and sipped from that. I didn't keep track of how much I was consuming and only that I knew I needed it.

Take it easy. The first few days are challenging and yes, you will be tired. Listen to your body and sleep when you need to and walk around as much as you can when you are up 'n about. I never got sick, felt sick or had any pain so be careful with your intake .. you don't want to undo what was just done!

Didn't your surgeon's office give you guidelines about intake and what to expect going forward from the surgery?

my doctor put me on full liquids for the first 2 weeks, but what i've been doing since i came home yesterday is trying to get my Water in and get some protien in. it's weird becaue i dont want anything! i have to make myself drink something.

i'm hoping by day 4 i'll feel a little better.

I have heard different experiences about the clear fluids from a number of people .. mine were only a few days and some, like you, were two weeks. You really won't want anything and pretty much all sleevers understand that feeling but keep at it. Your body is healing and needs the fluids. I hope you feel better .. that is a lousy feeling .. but things will get better.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
