Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Woohoo, I am post-op and home!

Recommended Posts

My surgery went well on Monday, although there was some scheduling mixup and I wound up going in "late" by their reckoning and very early by mine (someone called me Friday to tell me it was rescheduled for a later time and apparently that was not true.) They had me checked-in and prepped within maybe 30 minutes and before I knew it I was in the recovery room.

About the only thing I wasn't prepared for was the gas pains. OMFG wow, the gas pain is terrible and I still haven't moved much of it. Yowza. Cannot wait for that to get gone.

The bariatric wing of the hospital I was in relocated their floor on the day I had surgery, which meant they were still stocking my room up when I got wheeled down and I still never got a phone. Plus there was a thunderstorm in the middle of the night that knocked out a huge transformer and sent the entire city block including the hospital dark. The emergency generators didn't run the air conditioners however, so it was really miserable by 4am (this is southeastern VA!) Luckily it cooled off when they finally got power back -- not that I would have slept much better even with AC, hospitals are horrible for actually getting any rest.

Got to watch my upper GI, which was cool (and distracted me from the taste of the horrible liquids they made me sip.) No leak, yay!

Now I'm home and I just need to work on this gas, and I think I'll be just fine. Still weird thinking that I'm done with the pre-op phase, but it is a good kind of weird!

Congrats on your surgery!! Gasx helps with the pain and so does using a heating pad...my shoulders ached like heck for a week after my sugery.

sending you good wishes for health and healing!

I agree ... heating pads ROCK! post-op.

Glad to hear that you are doing well. I grew up in Virginia so I know what you mean about the heat. Sorry you had to go through that.

You cannot know how reassuring your post is!! I am grinning from ear to ear, as that will be me in a week's time! Well done. What is gasx? I know I will have trapped wind, (gale force, it sounds like!!) is Gasx something you can buy over the counter? I can look up the French equivalent...

Gas-X is basically a gas relief medicine -- the active ingredient is simethicone. You'll want the strips that dissolve on your tongue since you can't swallow pills until you are ok'd to take oral medicine.

Between the Gas-X strips and the heating pad, I was finally able to pass some gas this morning and I'm already feeling a lot less pressure and pain because of it. Hopefully I can get the rest out today or tomorrow.

Other than the gas pains, it mostly just feels like I've done a ton of sit-ups and my abs are sore. Unfortunately I can't twist around to reach behind me so I have to have my husband wash the back half of me and wipe my bottom (poor man knows I'm not thrilled about it, but it's very sweet that he loves me enough to help me wipe, LOL!)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
