How to Stave off the pre-surgery clear-liquid diet Hungries

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Finally have a date of the 23rd a week from Wednesday.

I start Clear liquids on Friday and was looking for some help from

you veterans on how to stave off the clear liquid diet hungries.

Probably not entirely possible, but I am hoping for something that

might help!

Thanks,

Lisa

When ever I started to get hungery I would get something to drink and try to take a walk. Anything to keep my mind busy.

i thought i would be starving but after the first day, i didnt starve as i thought it would. it was more in my head, however the day before surgery (today) it sure growled! the 3 low carb slim fasts and the fat free milk made it quite bearable. also ate an entire box of sugar free popsicles!

How about using the time efficiently:

Clear out your kitchen of any out of date or 'bad' food that you know you won't use.

Clean the whole house top to bottom.... as you won't want to do that post op for a while anyway!!

Get in some exercise - the fitter you can be pre op the better... beg or borrow a dog if you don't have one, or get to a pool and swim.

I dyed my hair did my eyebrows etc.....all things I knew needed to be done and as I knew I'd not be looking my best in hospital i figured at least i would try with the bits that are on show 100% of the time! LOL

(And I shaved my legs knowing I was in for surgery......lucky for me as my Dr kept checking them for thrombosis!!)

Or get lost in a REALLY good book

Foodwise - I made popsicles out of fruit juice which were great. Made some Soups and stocked up on everything I was allowed on my pre op.... which included yoghurt drinks for me....if I even felt tempted i just attacked something I could have and it worked.

Its a long term thing... think of the long term goal and you'll be fine.

If they get inside and find your liver hasn't shrunk enough then you'd be gutted after all the build up to it.....so Iwish you luck - be strong - its one of the worst parts about it all, but you CAN do it.

Good luck - and keep us posted... if you get tempted just get your butt back on here and we'll sort you out! LOL

Thanks Everyone for the suggestions!

I work so staying pretty much busy wont be an issue, but I guess its really

about distracting yourself to not think about it.

As far as I can tell my clear liquid diet is just that.

Clear Liquids. broth, juice, etc.

Getting nervous, have just over one week until the deed.

Good thing is my surgery is at 730 so I am the first procedure of the day and dont have to wait and be nervous over delays.

Thanks guys,

Lisa

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
