Wheetsin 714 Posted June 2, 2006 Not one bit. I wondered if I would, only because I read a LOT of stories about people who wondered what the frig they had done to themselves, and even my pre-op psychologist told me to expect some kind of phase or period where I would doubt the decision I made. But I never had it! Not once! Going IN to surgery I questioned if I wasmaking the right decision, but as soon as I reminded myself of all the good things to come, the doubt went away. All of my debating must have been taken care of in the 4 - 5 years leading up to surgery.
christa94 0 Posted June 2, 2006 i must admit i am getting scared. i have made the decision to do it. i have a date. but, now i am getting scared. wondering if something will go wrong during the surgery and i don't wake up. or that i will be that person that has every complication imaginable! i know i need to chill. pray and let God do the rest. that is why i am on here looking for positive experience. thanks for sharing! Wheetsin 714 Posted June 2, 2006 If you weren't getting scared, you wouldn't be normal. My surgery was on a Wed. This was my first surgery ever. I was the most scared the Saturday before surgery. Actually that's not quite true. I was the most scared the moment they told me to lay in the bed in the prep area. I actually had a minor panick attack, started crying, etc. And I'm not a terribly emotional person, so for that to hit says a lot. I still never doubted what I was doing, I just hit a point of being overwhelmed. My overall experience has been great. Surgery took right around an hour, recovery took right around an hour, and except for moments of my own fault, it has been a relative breeze. And one of the best parts about it? I don't give myself a mental beating everyday, punishing myself with constant thoughts about how I should start a diet tomorrow, how I really need to lose weight, why do I always fail. That emotional & mental relief is SO GREAT. It's true freedom.
Valentinebaby 0 Posted June 2, 2006 Congrats on your choice. I was banded March 2006,I will be very honest my surgery was fine the nurse doctors everyone was great, thank God no complications.I was actually surprised at how good I felt,I only used pain medication the 1st night(had to get use to sleeping on the opposite side of the port.LOL now the gas issue was a little more than I expected.Even with the slow losing that I am doing I would definitely do again and encourage anyone who has been down the "any diet /diet pills/supplement on the market, internet etc cycle to give the band a try it works if you work with it.May God Bless you with peace of mind about your choice. Sheryl Kay 0 Posted June 2, 2006 Yes, at least the 1st post-op day. A little over the next few days. Not much 10 days out. Now-------NO !!!!!! Lost 31 pounds in 22 days. I never get HUNGRY. I NEED to eat sometimes. But, YES, I would do it again. Sheryl Kay
DevilMayKare 1 Posted June 2, 2006 I wouldn't say I regret it.... but I wouldn't say I would recommend it. I'm at one year today and my results have been mixed. If I have to have this removed due to slippage or errosion in the future I will probably be saying my regrets. I honestly don't know that bandsters 2-6 months out should be the source of your confirmation. I was a cheerleader at 4 months too. Too many of our long-term fellows are away from the board these days, but a poll of satisfaction versus regret might look a LOT different for those 2-3 years away from banding. THis is the first time I have given my current feelings about the band aloud. It's crummy to have to rain on someone's parade. I'd MUCH rather totally encourage you, but that wouldn't be honest. I bet I'm not the only one holding back on being negative (of course there are those we might wish to hold back their negativity a LITTLE! ) Whatever decision you make, I wish you success! kellymoos 4 Posted June 2, 2006 Yes, I regret getting the band and am glad that I had it removed. I had the choice to fix the slippage and decided to remove the band. Best decision I have made. I like what someone else said, it's like having a choke collar on. Don't feel bad Kare, express your feelings. ****See additional response on page 2****
