Thanks to last minute change in doctor...NO PRE-OP DIET REQUIRED!

Recommended Posts

I am so happy that even though it was a hassle to have a change of doctor (I feel much better now btw), I do not have to do a pre-op diet because my BMI is lower. That makes my stinkin day.:)

I don't have to have a pre-op diet either! I was really worried, the surgeon said it wasn't necessary.... I'm so glad I'm not the only one!

I'm 5 days into a 3 week pre-op diet. It's hell. They say that it defats the liver, making it smaller, floppier and much easier to retract during the surgery (and therefore, safer). They are VERY strict about it (they will call off the surgery if the patient doesn't lose 5lbs/week). I'm cheating (a little- a can of low sodium/low fat Soup every evening), but otherwise trying hard. Have lost 4lbs so far. I'm absolutely obsessing about food and feel like crud, but if it gives me a safer outcome (not to mention, keeps me from delaying the surgery- which insurance is paying for), I'm gonna keep my eye on the prize. Thank G-d for a very supportive (and tolerant) husband! Even if your surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet, you may want to consider going VERY low fat and low sugar until your surgery. Good luck and keep us posted. Go June!!! :biggrin0:

Pcindy - 3 weeks? Be strong babe..... I did one week and found that bearable.....it sounds like you have your head in the right place tho.....this is a long term thing, and the more you can shift during pre op the better.

I figured with mine that hubby paid for the op (from inheritance money) and the least I could do to honor the relative was stick to my side of the bargain and be 100%.

If they opened you up then said not doing it you'd be gutted..... so i do think your advice to follow a vague pre op is a good one. It can't hurt anyway!!

Good luck with your 3 weeks..... we're here for you, when you want to cheat come and post on here and we'll put you off bigtime!!

:scared0: I am going to have a slimfast shake for lunch now, instead of the ham sandwich I had planned! Does anyone have a diet sheet I can follow for the last few days?

I spoke to a lady who had her sleeve done 17 months ago with the same surgeon, and she had no pre-diet either. She is my motivator, as she has gone from a size 30/32 to a 16-18 (and is still losing, though more slowly now). She looks amazing...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
