35 bmi, will i lose?

Recommended Posts

It is my understanding from reading all the posts that, while weight loss might be a little slower, MANY people with lower BMI's do lose with the band. Of course, you need to make the band work for you and follow the dietary and exercise guidelines.

You should lose as long as you are working with your band as instructed but it will be slower.

Here is a link to a great site that shows excersices and calories burned based on your current weight. You will see that someone who is 400 lbs. can burn a lot of calories just walking a block while someone who is carrying only 150 calories would have to walk miles to burn the same amount of calories.

That is one reason (along with adjusting metabolism) that weight loss slows as we lose more. We are taking off those extra "weights" that help burn more calories.

PS,

When I was banded, my BMI was 42, now it is 29. I am still losing at a BMI of 29, just not as easily as in the beginning.

Hello -

I was banded 10/1/05, beginning with a BMI of 35.

I've lost 40 pounds so far, and am so happy about it. My BMI is now 28.8.

I'm not sure what my goal is yet, so I'll just keep going along.

Love my band!

Best of luck to you!!

Laura ;)

Well seeing you all with lower BMI's that lost so much weight Congratulations!! Thats great. It also helps me cause my BMI is 35. But the slower weight lose is a bit frustrating.

I've lost 20kg in less than 6 months which I consider fairly fast. Well really I lost most of that in about 4 months. But it IS coming off very slowly now, however I could work at it a lot harder than what I am doing.

I may have a lower BMI but I'm pretty tall and very active, so i'd say I burn quite a lot more calories than someone shorter, fatter but not as active. Seems to be the case since I've done this whole thing so far eating around 1500 to 1800 calories a day, which seems to generally be only possible for men, yet it works for me.

thanks everyone for your posts! my goal is to lose 60pounds. i would be happy with 40-45. my doctor has told me to look for about 10 pounds a month and that the amount i lose will be determined by how well i follow the post op diet and exercise.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
