I just completed a 5K today! It was a walk called Strides for Epilepsy. Went with a bunch of friends and had a fun time. My hubby took some pics and I will add them to this thread a bit later. I am just so happy that I am already on this track at 3 1/2 weeks post op!!! My excuses are all gone. I did this walk in 50 degrees, raining, brrr.... my feet were soaking. I have a blister the size of texas on the bottom of my foot - have had it all week but it hasn't stopped me from doing 3 mile walks 4 times this week! My calf has been hurting, the kind of soreness you would have the morning after getting a charlie horse.... but I have just kept right on going, and I feel GREAT!!!!

Here are the pics as promised

Me with my friend Brandy (She dressed up as Wonder Woman) the whole team wore superhero stuff but I didn't get the memo lol. Brandy is the one who helped me through weight loss surgery, she had gastric bypass with my surgeon 7 years ago. She is a runner now but she broke 3 toes last week so I walked this with her.

7 is my lucky number... and I got 3 of them!! If I were in Vegas I'd hit the jackpot lol.

During the walk. Wish you could tell how crappy the weather really is. This was during a brief time when we didn't need umbrellas. LOL

Finishing!! We actually had to re-enact this as the camera didn't take it the first time around. It was worth it though since this was my first ever 5K :thumbup1: Really my first organized walk of any kind that I have participated in. I like it and I think I will seek out things like this to do.

Christie..again so proud of you. I have NEVER been athletic. Last year I signed up and led a team in the Susan G. Komen 3 day (60 miles) and am doing the walk again in November of this year in San Diego...I'm not a jock...but I've learned a few things along the way about walking...so if I can ever support you send me a note....

I did a 5 k in Seattle last weekend....also Leslie Sansome has some GREAT walk at home videos that a great for training and excercise....

Sending you a virtual High 5.....HURRAY FOR YOU!

Wow 60 miles in 3 days that's amazing! I'd love to do that someday. Yes, I LOVE Leslie Sansone, have been using her videos for years. Did her 3 mile Walk Away the Pounds Express yesterday. Love getting the total body work out. I use hand weights during the whole DVD and then switch to the resistance band for those parts. Love it.

Awesome! I can't wait to get back into exercising. I am hoping that as soon as I lose some lbs my knees won't hurt as bad and I can get on out there. Lately I have been dying to run! I don't know where this has come from, but I may give it a try!

Keep up the good work

Cool pictures! Thanks for posting them.

I'm beginning to think that being more active is a "mindset" before it is a reality. You look like you are having fun and enjoying yourself. I wonder if I could picture myself like that, if I would more eagerly plan exercise?

You are inspiring me!

Breezy... I know what you mean. It is a mindset. Let me tell ya, I don't think many people do this 3 weeks after surgery, and I also only saw ONE other person my size at this entire even with thousands of people. And I don't believe for a second that other people my size aren't capable.

I'm not one of those "lucky" people who got big with no problems. I have back, hip, knee, and foot problems and all are pretty bad. But I'm still out there!

Christie, I did aerobics with my girlfriend again yesterday. For some reason, I really enjoy exercising with her. She's so upbeat and fun! Kind of like your friend. We agreed to do it 2x a week together.

I have feet, knee, hip problems, too, but they're better since I lost some of the weight. I can actually go down stairs normally instead of placing both feet on a step before I go to the next one.

Thanks again for the inspiration!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
