Confessions of a lick-a-holic

Recommended Posts

OK, since Wednesday when I came home from the hospital I have put the following in my mouth:

Guacamole

Bolognese sauce

sausage gravy

a "crunchie" piece from a pan of pork milanese

choc. chip cookie dough

........

I am a compulsive tester and finger licker! This has got to stop! Luckily I caught it all "before it went down", but I am worried something might sneak by.

Glad you caught it before it went down! It's hard to break old habits. When I went to my pre-op group appointment, the nutritionist told us about one person who called the office having problems during the first few days after VSG--this person had eaten a fried cheese stick on the way home from the hospital. Don't know about you--but I don't want any food badly enough to risk damaging my sleeve.

Whoa, a cheese stick?! None of my "licks" were intentional....just habit. I always taste what I am cooking so I can adjust the seasoning etc. I told my kids to keep an eye on my fingers!

I had to cook for my husband last night, and had to get him to taste it all... as I kept having to remind myself I couldn't!! Its hard!!

I have still got my pre op diet sign on the fridge, at eye level saying DON'T EAT! - Maybe you could do one, adding in LICK as well! :001_tongue:

Stick with it.

I thought about this last night. Why not use surgical gloves to cook? I can't imagine wanting to lick food off the gloves, you can wash them under the sink to keep them clean while cooking and after a while of cooking, you will probably break the tasting, licking habit. Of course if you are licking the spoon, that is another story.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
