4 days Post Op. Ask me how I am feeling...

Recommended Posts

Like crap! I feel terrible. I am dizzy and weak and sometimes feel like I am getting the flu. I didn't think I would feel quite this bad. I am not getting near enough Protein in because everything, and I do mean everything, tastes terrible. I cough up phlegm (so sorry) at least once a day and that makes my stomach hurt but I have decided to stop the strong narcotics because they make me sleep all day.

Someone tell me this is normal and say something encouraging. How am I going to eat Protein when it makes me gag now?

Hang in there girl! I am day 5 and felt really tired and weak until yesterday. I had to take a nap after going to the grocery store! You are probably still processing the anesthesia out of your system. If you aren't in too much pain, stop the pain meds, they can make you feel like cr@p. I couldn't get any Protein in either so I called my doc and they said I could start Protein Shakes made with Water. That has made a world of difference. Hang in there, get in your water, and walk whenever you can.

It's normal to feel the way you do. The biggest thing is to work all that anestec (sp?) out of your system. Constantly sip and walk even small distances as much as possible. I also did gator aide when I was really weak to help with the electrolites.

You are one week behind me. Last weekend I was still pretty miserable. Today, however, I walked at the park, went to church, went to Central Market, shopped at Sam's, etc. If someone had told me last week that this was possible, I wouldn't have believed them. Getting the drain out was huge for me! Hang in there; it gets better quickly.

You were able to go to the store??? I can barely make it from bed to couch without feeling like death. I think a lot of it is the drugs given for surgery and recovery. I hope they are out of my system by tomorrow cause I am so over feeling like this.

I am sure that is it. I napped alot my first full day at home and have taken a least a "cat-nap" every day since.

Some people respond more adversly than others to the anesthesia. I didn't use my pain pump at all while in the hospital and they sent me home with a "gallon" of loratab that I haven't cracked the seal on. I don't like the way pain meds make me feel.

Stay hydrated, and rest. You deserve it!

Hi, Im new to this forum and so glad I found you all. I had my surgery 6/7/10 and tomorrow it will be a week. I still have soreness and OMG I have never been such a Bi@tch like I have lately. The food commercials are ridiculous, but I have to tell you that my dad coming to help from NY and my husband and kids just eating different big meals are really bothering me. I didn't think it would and Im not hungry... is anyone feeling like this?

You sound like I felt but a day before...each day I feel slightly better, but I certainly haven't felt like a spring chicken yet!!

I've also been coughing and have a new best friend of a cushion, to help hold against me when coughing or laughing as it hurts so much!!

Are you taking your temp - is that ok? If so then its gonna be fine.... it'll just work its way thru you.....

Hope today you're feeling a bit better!! - And well done on your weightloss!! I regained everything I lost during pre op and have only just evened back out again but am so swollen its unreal!

I suppose I am feeling better. Instead of feeling like I am in the middle of having the flu, I feel like I am recovering from it. My Protein and Water intake is better but still a bit below 40 oz. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and they will up me to 64 oz. How the hell will I get all that in?

But I do see progress every day, even if it only is a little. My family is causing me the biggest stress right now. My husband decided it was a great time to work overtime leaving me home with the kids. Now the kids are old enough except for the 5 year old to handle things and to take care of me but they are very selfish creatures. I came down stairs to the kitchen looking like a mess and a 5 year old throwing a fit because he wanted candy. When my daughter texted me (visiting a friend) and asked if she could use the last $40 I gave her for necessities to purchase video games, I went off. And then when I went for a walk and saw the yard that I have worked very hard to replant, dying and needing to be mowed badly, I just wanted to cry.

It's almost as if they are waiting for me to get better so I can do it all. It is hard to concentrate on getting better when you get no relief from your daily chores.

Amen to that! I got home from the hospital late Wednesday evening and got up Thursday to a pile of laundry in the laundry room that my daughter was "doing". Then my 17 year old says "So, what are y'all thinking about for lunch", which loosely translated means "Mom what are you cooking me". ReallY? Really? I CAN'T EAT ANYTHING!!! But in reality, it is my issue. I either need to stop catering to their every whim, or suck it up and deal with the repercusions.

Hang is there girl! It keeps getting better every day.

The first few days can be rough. I had some real issues with post-op fever -- it was mild; not an infection, but apparently a very normal post "trauma" thing your body does. The surgery itself is so easy, that I think we get blindsided when our bodies remind us that "hey, you did something pretty major down here!"

Just focus on getting enough Water. That's really your number one goal in the first week. Then focus on Vitamins and Protein. Then, once you've got those licked, you can focus on everything else.

Oh, and KEEP MOVING. I know that when you feel like crap the temptation is just to lie down and sleep, but trust me, walking and moving is a life saver.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
