Just a rant- John Goodman-

Recommended Posts

I love John Goodman, he reminds me of my brother Dan. I say good for him, no matter how he lost the weight (he is saying that he cut out sugar, stopped drinking and started working with a personal trainer).

SarahD....I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. The minute I see the scale stop moving, my little downer voice says......"great, you are going to fail at this too, and then won't everyone be disappointed in you". I actually had a little break down in yoga class yesterday because the scale has stopped.....again......and I couldn't do may of the poses in class....was really having a pity party. Instead of celebrating the fact that I have lost 37 pounds and doing a pretty darn good job in my second yoga class.....I let myself get caught up in negative. Gosh, why does this have to be such a difficult process?

Anywho.....good for you John Goodman!

i agree...i have had people say to my face that i took the easy way out. i tell them no i dont think so...i still need to exercise and watch what I eat and if ww had worked for me Id be skinny as I went there so many times. as far as the biggest loser, jillian would prob make me cry! anyway sure id lose weight if i exercised 8 hours/day but then who would pay my mortgage since who would have time to work...lol

I goto a small Gym and I think everyone knows, the only thing anyone has ever said is "Wow your doing so well" and "OMG thats your 3rd new set of gear". Do you think its a sexist thing?

Hi, I agree John Goodman looks great and it really doesn't matter how he did what matters is that he did. I have been on a strenuous exercise routine for 30 years now I walk 2 hours a day 5 days a week with 7 serious hills) I think if you added up all the days I missed in those years they would not even make five years and before surgery all that walking did was to slow down weight gain to a crawl. I also spent most of that time on a diet! Surgery was a last option for me and I don't regret it nor do I believe it was the easy route.

I am not a fan of Jullian nor of the show. I remember there was once a challenge for a group that had been out to get back in. They had then do steps for five minutes and the one who did the most got the spot. Thing was there was one man whose knees were shot and one woman who had asthma! It certainly did not seem like a fair contest. Also the contestents are not all the same size I would guess BMIs probably range from 35 to 60 and while they go by percentage of what is lost someone who is 400lbs at 5'3" will lose a bigger percenbtage then someone who weighs 250 at 5'3" doing the exact same thing.

Nancy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
