Are antibiotics ok to take?

Recommended Posts

I have had bronchitis for a few weeks now and finally made it to the doctor yesterday and she prescribed me antibiotics and an inhaler. I'm not sure if this is something we aren't supposed to take or if I can take it with all my other supplements. Any feedback would help, or anyone post-op that has had to take them please let me know. I just want to start feeling better without taking any risks! Please help!

Antibiotics are fine to take if you need them. During surgery a culture of my stomach revealed I had Heliobactor Pilori (the bacteria that causes ulcers) so my surgeon prescribed for me a Prev-Pac which is a combination of 3 or 4 different antibiotics. I am only 21 days out of surgery.

I was actually given liquid antibiotics to take home with me right after surgery, it was only 3 days worth, but i was fine, no problem with stomach cramps or anything else and i am only 6 days post -op...feel better soon!

I've had to take antibiotics, and I made sure I took them with yogurt and took extra Probiotics to help prevent "sterile gut". I still get nauseated when on certain antibiotics, but not as bad as early out.

As for the inhaler, I have a nebulizer, and have used it on occasion without issue over the last year for my allergy induced asthma symptoms.

My best advice is to talk to your pharmacist. Tell him/her exactly what and when you take it to make sure they won't interfere with each other.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
