Pyschologist - out of pocket

Recommended Posts

I have insurance and the names they referred me too for the psych evalulation take my insurance but they said that they still have to charge me at minimum 175.00 for the evaul and report. Did this happen to anyone else.

Thanks,

Kim

Some of the psychs that were on the "approved" list charged the patient $350-$400, and then made us file the claim for reimbursement. Our insurance covers 100%, but I found a psych who had an office manager that was familiar with Tricare claims processing, and I didn't have to pay upfront. I know that doesn't help. I would find out how much of the visit is covered by your plan, and if you can get reimbursed for some of the out-of-pocket expense.

i found my own psych that works with bariatric patients. they gave me a list, and they wanted different amounts other than my copay. so I found my own through my ins company, and just paid my copay

we were lucky that the psychologist was just down the hall from our doctor. She was very nice and easy to talk to. I appreciated her professionalism and demeanor. It is a very fine line between a professional clinical environment and feeling like a bug under glass. :)

My psychologist was covered by my insurance, so I just had to pay the co-pay. The nutritionist was an entirely different story.

Well, I got lucky, I called the Insurance Girl at the office and she gave me another psychologist and I only have to pay my copay of $35.00. This woman at this doctor office asked me for my mental health number on the back of the card and called them to see if it was covered so I dont even need a referral or anything. NOw I can call and cancell the other appt. Sounds like alot of people have to pay for the nutritionist, as of right now I dont have to pay anything for the 3 visits prior to surgery. Thanks everyone!!!!

HI All,

I'm so pissed. i have my bariatric eval with the Psych on Tuesday, she was more focused on my panic attacks then why I want the surgery. AND she told me that she's not going to recommend me for surgery until my panic attacks are under control. I've had these since 2008 and I see my own therapist and psychologist so I'm hoping this doesn't affect with the Dr will do. I was wondering if I should call the office and speak with him or the bariatric coordinator.

What do you think!!

Kim

How did she even know about your panic attacks? Is she the official therapist from your insurance or can you pick another? I was told during my psych eval that it was not a pass/fail situation and would not affect my ability to get the surgery. Rather, that it was so the surgeon's team would have a more complete picture of me so they could better tailor their efforts during my recovery.

The pyschologist, like all other doctors not only want to do what's best for their patients, but also have to think about their own liability.

If you were to have surgery and had serious emotional problems post-op, then the pyschologist could be found liable for approving you for surgery, while being aware you have an issue with panic attacks.

I wish you the very best and hope that it all works out well for you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
