How to tell grams and what-not?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm HORRIBLE with telling how much grams and stuff I'm supposed to eat. Can anyone describe or link me to a site? I'm so scared that I'll overeat, or eat too little. This is what I'm most concerned about with the surgery. I've been looking everywhere on the internet for a good website with visuals for VSG patients, but can't find one! :)

Calva 413, believe me when I tell you this, do not worry about the gram amounts of what you will be eating. Why? Because by the time you leave the hospital you will be covered up with do's and do not's. There are lots of books for Bypass and LapBand nutritional requirements, so a lot of information you get may not apply to the Sleeve. I was instructed to get 75 grams of Protein a day. More than likely you will be given powered shakes to drink. They will have the amount of protein in grams on the package. Mine have 25 grams, so I add an extra scoop of whey isolate Protein (40 grams). By doing this twice a day I get more protein than required. Other "sleevers" have different protein requirements. Every food you eat for a while will be easy to tell the gram amount of protein, carbohydrates, fats, etc.. Good Luck on your journey.

I use myfitnesspal.com to track my food intake. This way I was able to ensure that I was hitting my protein/calorie goals and keeping my carbs in check.

There is also a free application for smartphones available from myfitnesspal.com that I used. I have quit tracking since I'm in maintenance, and just mentally record what I'm consuming. Some days I use it still just to do a checks and balance on myself to ensure I'm staying on track.

Here are several guidelines with information on how much Protein is in certain foods. These are just guidelines and definitely stick to whatever your specific surgeon or nutritionist recommends when it comes to the post-op diet and calorie/protein/carb intake because every program is different.

These all have different information, and suggestions. But, you can scroll through and find interesting tidbits that will help you along the way. I love the charts that break down the amount of protein that is in certain foods. I also like to check out the glycemic index to help choose veggies and fruits that have the lowest glycemic loads. This helped me keep carbs low while still eating a balanced diet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
