Yes Dorothy there are Fairies in the Arctic!

A friend of Dorothy is a fan of Judy Garland and because she is a known gay icon the phrase is known by a lot of older gays as code. If you asked a younger gay person if they are a friend of Dorothy's "wink, wink" they wouldn't know what the hell your talking about. lol...

It's an old phrase from when being gay meant a death sentence a jail sentence or a severe beating.

sadly the days of Judy Garland are disappearing, but we still have Shirley Bassey (another gay icon). :001_smile:

I know 25lbs is great. I passed my stall weight and now I feel hopeful to get the rest off. I just have to get off my ass and start exercising.

No, Judy Garland was straight, but she was an advocate for the gay community, and gay rights.

Correct me if I'm wrong Will, but I'm pretty sure that's why she is considered a gay icon.

Hi Will. I haven't been on this forum in ages. I thought you were family though from your posts on other forums. Something about your other posts made my gaydar go ding ding ding. :-)

What are you doing in Yellowknife? Are you from there? Do you get midnight sun? I live in the SW desert so Yellowknife seems exotic.

Hi Lisa,

Now I haven't been on in ages and just saw your post.

Yes I was born close to Yellowknife in a village called Deninu k'ue (very tiny place).

Our summers are beautiful 24 hours of sun. Plus this area is very arid so there are no clouds or rain in the summer. Unfortunately in the winter we also get 24 hours of dark, but you adjust.

Thank you for the nice post and I apologies for the tardiness of my reply.

Will

How did I miss this thread! Congratulations on your weight loss Will, I'm jealous nearly 7 weeks out and lost a bit less than you, but I know men lose quicker than woman, my husband's losing weight and I'm the one with the sleeve! Just had to mention I LOVE GAY Guys, you're the best, my best friend is gay and I love him to bits! Good luck on the rest of your journey.

Oh okay, I get it now. That makes more sense.

Part of the Dorothy thing is the song in Wizard of Oz, "Somewhere over the Rainbow" as the rainbow flag is a symbol of the gay community. The idea of dancing down the road with good friends, etc. The Witch wrote in the sky, Surrender Dorothy. This sort of suggests that one should not be fighting who they are.

Just some thoughts.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
