Recommended Posts

Do any of you find your appetite returning and wanting to snack or graze throughout the day? I'm finding this to be a big problem and i'm trying to combat it! I've got food on my mind like crazy right now and it's killing me!! :(

Thank you everyone for all the advice. I weighed this morning and vowed not to weigh again for a week. I am putting the scale away and only going to get on once a week from now on, I was driving myself crazy otherwise. I am starting my walking and now that my cuts are healed I can start swimming:lol0: which I LOVE to do so i'm very excited. It was nice to hear that everyone else had gone through the same things and I know that as long as i'm getting my Protein in and staying at 800 cals, limiting carbs it's going to come off, just might take my body adjusting to it. Everyone's advice was so helpful thanks guys:001_wub:

I?m fighting that very same thing right, it?s like I can eat something and still graze a little later. Trying to fight it. I also notice that when I eat fish I stay full longer, but when I drink my Protein it?s like it goes right through me and I was to eat something else. How it gets better for you, and let me know if you find a way to fix it.

Chicken and fish are great ways to stay full longer. I'm having to really train myself to chew, chew, chew.... i've gotten sick too many times now from taking big swallows of food without fully chewing first, and sitting there for an hour after that bite gets stuck is an awful experience!!! Now I'm so scared that if i feel like i may have taken one bite too many, I'll spit it out into a napkin instead of swallow it!! Pitiful huh! lol!

Frustrating but normal, the three week stall or atleast signifigant slow down happens to most. If you can put away that scale it really is good advice, not something I've been able to do but good advice. It really helps to not watch the fluctuations that happen in a day based on what your wearing, how much Water you've had, etc. You will keep losing! Be patient, keep following the rules and you will get there.

This is what i am going through right now. I am 4 weeks out from sleeve, and at a stand-still. My sister n law had hers done 1 year ago, and she says this is how it goes. It will drop off then stall. So don't give up hope!

I was talking to my husband on this stalling point, and he came out with something I'd not thought of.... if it seems to occur when most people hit the mushie/soft food stage, some of it might be due to the fact your bowels are filling back up again.

Although the Protein drinks may fill you up actual food will do s omore, and result in a BM..... and as the intestines are fairly long then surely a lot or the pre op weightloss we experience is also the fact our bowels are emptying.

Therefore surely when they refill we'll either stall or possibly even gain a little??

I thought it made sense anyway! lol

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Guess we will learn a lot about our bodies from this experience. It sure is a life changing adventure. :scared0:

My surgery was May 18, I am also experiencing weight gain of 3 pounds,,seems to go back and forth. I at one point got upset, then understanding how everything works realize, I need to lighten up and just enjoy the journey. I am also in the mushy stage, but I didn't realize we could have meat ground up. I was thinking my Doc said not to have meat until the solid food stage. What is everyone eating for mushies? Also, I am not going over the 800 calories a day..sometimes less..although, I do feel hungry, maybe it is head hunger..I don't want to push it though.

Try soft scrambled eggs, they are perfect for this stage.

I'm in a stall to, I got my surgery on May 6th and when I hit the soft mushy stage I hit the stall, and I'm already desperate because it is been 3 weeks and the scale just doesn't move, I'm at the point of thinking that even with the sleeve I'm not gonna loose weight. I'm under 800 calories a day, drinking my Water and exercising but noting is working. So good luck in your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
