Sushi, yum yum!

Recommended Posts

I found a site that breaks down the cals, carbs, and Proteins of sushi sashime and assorted sushi-related foods -

The Sushi FAQ - Sushi Calories and Nutritional Information

I love sushi and it seems like the perfect Protein delivery system post-VSG: small, soft, and flavorful. I'll probably have to switch to sashime rather than sushi 'cuz I've heard the rice is not our friend post-op. If you feel daring, octopus sashime came in at 8 grams of Protein for a 1oz. serving! Miso Soup was pretty low at only 3 grams but I think if I doctor it up with some unflavored Protein powder it might be good for full liquid stage. =)

What a great link - thanks, I'll keep hold of that as I love sushi! Think I may need to swap to sashimi afterwards tho, but still very near to my heart.

lillita, I freaked out too when I saw the cals but I think what they mean is the entire cigar roll before it is sliced up into pieces. Otherwise, eegad!!

I was heartbroken about the no rice thing after surgery cuz sushi is my favorite food ever and my tummy is very picky and I just figured rice was one of those "never get to eat again foods"...but I Couldn't hold out anymore and at week 5 I gave in and risked my life for a bite of a sushi roll, and mmm mmm mmm was it delish. No problems with the rice what so ever even that early. I had all of two pieces and a bite of my friends hibachi grilled steak. I was full and on cloud 9 to know I can have my beloved sushi again.

Yeah. I'm trying to find easy ways to make the Protein. 3 pieces of yellow tail sashimi (no rolls) should make it easy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
